Beyond the columns of Neso,
below the Sargasso Sea,
lie arcane creatures,
blind, trapped there by penumbrae
that no fable would dare to illuminate,
and that no science knows yet.
It was told to me by Simon, fisherman,
patron of fishermen,
shipwrecked sailor of the Great Boat,
of what it is said of those deeps
and of what he has seen with his own eyes,
of the horror that during decades
has come for him
every night.
Know of it only those who sail the seven seas,
because it has been erased from every log.
No drunk has sold the secret
in no tavern,
nor the whores quick for the ear and the money
have stolen from the mouth of the sailors
so hidden terror.

to which Adam, the first of us,
never named
dwell in eternal darkness,
drawings that God rejected
the fifth day of the Creation.
