I laugh out loud at the caricatures, and I'm on the edge of my seat as far as the fate of the narrator is concerned.

The corporate philosophy dissected throughout is just rich.

You're in for a real treat. MWINYD remains one of my favorite Ligotti works because it's so damned funny. Black comedy at its best.

Anyone who has worked in an office knows how spot on these scenarios and characters can be. Though I know little about Thomas Ligotti the man, it seems painfully autobiographical, as has also been alluded to in some interviews he has done. I can't help but laugh sympathetically at the image of Ligotti/Dominio sitting in their meetings and having all sorts of bizarre thoughts run wild, staring at the corporate drones around them.

I currently work in an office environment, and memories of this novella are near impossible to stuff away when I encounter the stereotypical figures and trivialities that make up office life.

I thought that was the case, thanks!

It is very refreshing to see Thomas's sense of humor blossom like this.

Hmm . . . I wasn't prepared for the amount of self loathing and disgust for the human race in general that's contained in this story.

It can be painful to read at times.

Agreed :). I've had to stop reading MWINYD at work (or rather: on my way to/from work), since the book seemed to gain more and more reality with each page - and which each day I spent at work.

At the time I started reading I had just been "put on leave" from exactly such a job - where I had been working with exactly the same kind of people ... These weren't stereotypes I was reading about, these were REAL people - in fact, I could have applied a real-life name to each of them.

Reading MWINYD in such an environment made it a "real life" experience ...
