Without a doubt, I would be miles from happy if the following phenomenon were to visit itself upon my demesne:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_jelly

I have heard of this Fortean occurence, as have many of you, I'm sure. I had no idea that there was a name for the effluvium, or that said name was so bizarrely evocative.

Regardless the source or cause of these manifestations, I will quite cheerfully continue my life in hopes of maintaining a Star-Jelly free environment.

From a CoC rpg point of view, how many scenarios could be started by the discovery of some otherwise unexplainable noisome plasm following a meteor shower?

This looks like the so called "Red Rain" that fell somewhere in India some time ago. Apparently some research made on it brought light into certain DNA sequences in some of the red droplets, alas, nothing is conclusive.

For some time (quite some time, actually) thinkers and scientists (and proto-scientists) have believed that life might have originated somewhere else and came here to this Earth as organic residues brought for by passing meteorites, or even in the trash left behind by careless extraterrestrial explorers, although of course, none of this has any substantial proof to back it up.

It's called Panpermia, and goes way back to ancient Greece. Some info here (http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/P/panspermia.html). That's one of the basis behind "Invasion of the body snatchers", actually.
