“For in this constricted setting, echoes emerge which only a void of supernatural dimensions could create. Yet at first they may sound like the reverberant groaning of those clouds in which a storm slumbers. And then they may seem to mimic the hissing of the ocean as it swirls about the broken land below. Slowly, however, the echoes distinguish themselves from these natural sounds and attain their own voice: a voice that carries across incredible distances, a voice whose words come to lose their stratum of sense, a voice that is dissolving into sighs and sobs and chattering insanity. Every niche, every pattern, every shadow of the room is eloquent with this voice. And one's attention may be distracted by this strange soliloquy, this uncanny music. Thus, one may not notice, as afternoon approaches nightfall, that something else is present in the room, something which has been secreted out of sight and waits to rise up in the shape of a revelation, to rise up like a cry in one's own throat.”

Thomas Ligotti Online - Nineteenth Anniversary
Feb 08, 2017 - 11:35 AM - by Dr. Locrian
On February 4th, 1998, TLO was born.

Happy Belated Birthday (I forgot AGAIN), Thomas Ligotti Online!

A heartfelt thank you to Brian Poe (aka Dr. Bantham) for his wonderful design, hosting and administrative prowess and to all the members of TLO past and present for making this an online community that continues to stand the test of time.

Finally, thanks to Thomas Ligotti himself, as always.

Here's to nineteen more years of TLO!

Tsang Kin-Wah: The Infinite Nothing
Nov 15, 2016 - 3:30 PM - by qcrisp
I have been apprised of an art installation by the Hong Kong artist Tsang Kin-Wah, which has apparently been influenced by Ligotti. Ligotti is quoted, for instance, in his curatorial statement, here:

http://www.westkowloon.hk/en/whats-o...rial-statement

Here is a video presenting the installation:

I thought TLOers might find it of interest, even if it's too late, now, to attend, and there would be, anyway, geographical difficulties for most of us.

New Essay About Thomas Ligotti's Works by D.P. Watt
Nov 05, 2016 - 12:53 PM - by lepidoppleganger
‘The Impossible Literature of Thomas Ligotti, Puppeteer and Eschatologist’, in Thinking Horror: A Journal of Horror Philosophy, Vol 2, October 2016.

Watt is a brilliant fiction writer and essayist, and this is sure to be a gem.
