I just felt I had to say something nice in order not to let poor dead Bela get depressed ........ The Black Cat is actually one of his best films, I think, one of his best performances. So go figure *g* Personally, I like him best in White Zombie and in Murders In The Rue Morgue. You read German, do I remember correctly?
