Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Update: all author contracts have been signed. Artist Dave Felton will be providing cover art and four pieces of interior art. There will likely be additional pieces of interior art provided by additional artists -- we're working on this.

The Table of Contents as it stands now is as follows (in alphabetic order by author):

Nonfiction
Michael J. Abolafia, "'Eccentric to the Healthy Social Order': Inversions of Family, Community and Religion in Thomas Ligotti’s The Last Feast of Harlequin"
S.L. Edwards, "The Alienation of the Self: Marx, Polanyi and Ligottian Horror"
Michael Penkas, "Night Walks The Films of Val Lewton"
W. Silverwood, "The Nightmare of his Art: The Horrific Power of the Imagination in 'The Troubles of Dr. Thoss' and 'Gas Station Carnivals'"
Dr. Raymond Thoss, "Notes on a Horror"
Colby Smith, "Eraserhead as Antinatalist Allegory"
Fiction
Paul Bates, "Solar Flare"
Kurt Fawver, "The Gods in Their Seats, Unblinking"
Devin Goff, "Nervous Wares & Abnormal Stares"
Jordan Krall, "My Time at the Drake Clinic"
Martin Rose, "Infinite Light, Infinite Darkness"
Michael B. Uhall, "How to Construct a Gun from Your Own Flesh"
Aaron Worth, "The Theatre of Ovid"

Hybrid
Christopher Ropes, "Singing the Song of My Unmaking"
Christopher Slatsky, "Affirmation of the Spirit: Consciousness, Transformation, and the Fourth World in Film"

Poetry
Robert Beveridge, "Try the Veal"
Ian Mullins, "Strange Bird"
Wade German, "Wraiths"

Right now we're aiming for an end of year release, hopefully at the latest. Things are moving quickly at last. Thanks for your patience.

The format will be paperback, Kindle and hopefully ePub as well. There may be special editions too. Still pondering this.

Once Felton finishes the cover for the first issue, we'll likely be creating a crowd-funding campaign to cover author/artist payment and build some revenue towards the creation of additional issues.

More soon!

"Thomas Ligotti is a master of a different order, practically a different species. He probably couldn’t fake it if he tried, and he never tries. He writes like horror incarnate.”
