Re: What are your favorite H.P. Lovecraft adaptations?

In terms of films that most resemble HPL stories, I would say that for my money I would go with John Carpenter's trilogy of The Thing, Prince of Darkness, and In The Mouth of Madness. In terms of direct adaptations of HPL's works, I can't think of any that are worthy. I do think that the Night Gallery episode of Pickman's Model outshines any feature-length adaptations. Anyone who says Re-Animator, Dagon, or any of that dreck is Lovecraftian surely must be joking. And while I do respect the HPL Historical Society's heartfelt attempts with The Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer in Darkness, unfortunately, they are just too campy, low budget, and badly acted to be taken seriously.
