Really loved Junji Ito's manga Uzumaki; definitely an atmospheric burn.
Suehiro Maruo is pretty darn good as well.
But then again, the sci-fi/cyberpunk Battle Angel (Gunnm) is still my favorite manga (both series); Yukito Kishiro is a fantastic b & w artist.
