Re: Movie Recommendations

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Finally saw The Wailing (South Korean possession film) and was astounded. Beautifully brutal movie that mixes genres very well.

Re: Movie Recommendations

- Finally saw Maddin's The Forbidden Room recently and quite enjoyed it; a bit like a phantasmagorical, metatextual, deeply psychosexual adaptation of Potocki's Saragossa Manuscript from an alternate universe's golden age of cinema, complete with Udo Kier and aswangs:

"When a man is born. . .there are nets flung at (his being) to hold it back from flight. You talk to me of nationality, language, religion. I shall try to fly by those nets." - James Joyce

Re: Movie Recommendations

I feel like I was one of few who didn't enjoy The Wailing. It had me for the first half or so, but became tedious with many twists which eventually wrung my interest completely from the film. All the acclaim it's been receiving leaves me feeling as though I've got it all wrong, so I'm willing to go wailing a second time.

Re: Movie Recommendations

I had two free tickets to watch The Magnificent Seven last night.

What a huge load of predictability. Of course, the screenplay was written by Nic Pizzolatto.

Yeah, it seemed the plot sort of ouroboros'd its way into nonsense on my first viewing. I watched a few explanations on youtube that helped me understand some of it. I enjoyed it even more the second time. As a collection of great scenes, it's really pretty

Pizzolatto wrote it? I guess it's just an unfortunate part of working in the movie industry.

I did enjoy the cinematography and effects. I only wished the more otherworldly elements had been subdued to leave the audience pondering a little more. I'll have to give those explanation videos a shot.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Despite this starring Christian "Hack Nicholson" Slater, it is thoroughly Ligottian and I highly recommend it.
