Re: Rhys Hughes
The charity auction has now raised £396 for Animal Aid. I'm rather pleased with this sum and wish to extend my gratitude to those who have made bids so far!
But remember: you don't have to bid a sum higher than those already bid. A minimum bid of $25 will secure you a copy of the book and a place as a gladiator in the novel, provided nobody else comes along and trumps your bid. Only the six highest bids will become gladiators; if you are seventh you won't be a gladiator but you won't lose any money. And if you have already pre-ordered the book, the sum you spent on buying it will be deducted from your bid, so you won't lose out! Click on this link to Meteor House to get involved... ![]() Today's style of gladiator is called the "existentialist". It's good at fighting itself. Here you can see me giving myself some stick. Even if I lose, I win! Conversely, if I win, I also lose! That's life.

Re: Rhys Hughes
This very morning I finished writing my 666th short story. I must be some kind of beast! Attaining this total means I am exactly 2/3rds through my life's work. It has taken twenty-three years.
Anyway, the most famous "beast" associated with the number 666 was Aleister Crowley, of course. There is a famous photo of him in a magical (or magickal) hat. To mark the occasion I decided to adopt similar garb. Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, I give you: the Teapot Crowley! "Brew what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law." "Every man and every woman is a biscuit suitable for dunking." ![]() I Thank you...

Re: Rhys Hughes
Thanks so much for this, Des!
You are the King of Reviewing and deserve some sort of medal for the massive amount of fiction you have reviewed over the past few years. I appreciate this greatly and I know that many other people enjoy reading your reviews too.

Re: Rhys Hughes
FREE EBOOK!
Yesterday was my birthday. It is also approximately a year since I created my first self-published ebook, The Tellmenow Isitsöornot. To celebrate the occasion I have therefore decided to make this collection free, but only for two days. ![]() 100 stories incorporating 150,000 words of fiction! To download this ebook for zero pennies please click on this link and use the following coupon-code: AC37A (and if you do download it, I would appreciate a review in return; an honest review, don't feel obliged to say you like it if you don't... Thanks!)

Re: Rhys Hughes
Hello again!
I have decided to make another of my ebooks free for two days. That's seems more fair and less tantalizing... So folks! For the enormous price of zero pence -- but just for two days -- here is my most recent ebook, The Sticky Situations of Zwicky Fingers... his is the relevant coupon-code to get it for free: VX79Q And here is the link to the relevant Smashwords page. If you do take advantage of this offer, all I ask in return is that you consider leaving a review on Smashwords after you have finished reading it... Thanks!

Re: Rhys Hughes
This is now my third book from you, Rhys, and I'm kind of starting to get why Italo Calvino and Rhys Hughes are sometimes mentioned in same posts/quotes/etc. Worming the Harpy and Coanda Effect are both wonderful books, yet my favourite story might be the one in EO Bulgakov Homage.

Re: Rhys Hughes
Hey, thanks for your comments! 'The Darkest White' is hopefully going to appear in a new collection next year, together with 19 other 'tribute' stories to writers I admire. A few details of this project, including a list of the authors who I've written a tribute story for, can be found on my Postmodern Mariner blog.
In the meantime, my next book will be this one: The Abnormalities of Stringent Strange ...which I actually think is my best novel (but authors should beware of judging their own books like this...)

Re: Rhys Hughes
THE MERMAID VARIATIONS
![]() Here's my Xmas present to you folks out there! A Free ebook! It's not much of a present but that's because I'm a tightwad. Scrooge is one of my heroes... This gift I am giving you is worth a massive 99 cents! Don't fall over each other rushing to get it. But if you do want it, here's the coupon-code to get it for free: PA22L And the place to get it from is here: The Mermaid Variations I know it's a bit early to wish you a Merry Xmas, but so what? Better early than late! Besides, I don't really celebrate Xmas, so think of it as a Winter Solstice present instead. Or don't think of it in any way at all. It's your choice... If you already forked out money to buy this and feel that my giving it away for free now is unfair, email me and I'll give you an alternative ebook for free. Bye! Oh yes, nearly forgot... The cover depicts a miniature painted shell by Adele Whittle. Check out Tiddu Shop for a selection of her pendants, paintings and other crafts. Too late to buy them for Xmas, probably, but they are the perfect gifts for 2013, the first year after the End of the World...
