Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

I can see them both now as well. That's a relief. For a while I thought I might be trapped in a world where I had to keep reposting, and slightly mis-remembering each time, so that over centuries the post accumulated more shadows than words, and became not just about Phyllis Paul's dark realm, but a part of it.

I've started a real-time review of A CAGE FOR THE NIGHTINGALE by Phyllis Paul. A Cage For The Nightingale Phyllis Paul | The Nemonicon
Thanks for recommending it.

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

Wormwood is open for proposed essays for the Spring 2014 issue. Please look at our home page, with contact details, at the link below. We can provide brief guidelines for contributors. We're a non-professional publication. We're particularly keen on introductions to worldwide authors in the field of the fantastic, supernatural or decadent in literature, and to new perspectives on the major names in the field.

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

I have just posted on the Wormwoodiana blog about Robert Nichols' Under The Yew, a very curious Gothick fantasia.

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

Just to let everyone know, Wormwood 19 is at the printers and is due for publication on 12th November. It's an eclectic mix of articles on decadent, fantastic and supernatural literature, as you'd expect...

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

My latest post on the Wormwoodiana blog is about HiLo Books' Radium SF series of apocalyptic classics, in particular a reissue of Edward Shanks' bleak 1920 doomsday novel, The People of the Ruins:

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

The latest post on Wormwoodiana announces a new edition of Arthur Machen's first published work, Eleusinia, with essays and rare Machen pieces about the poem. This has been produced by the Friends of Arthur Machen to celebrate his 150th anniversary. Friends also get two hardback issues of the journal Faunus, and the newsletter Machenalia.

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

Announcing Wormwood 20...

“the mysteries of time, mortality and desire….”
Joel Lane on Robert Aickman’s visions of afterlife

“the Empire fell apart, dropped away into a void”
John Howard on Robert Musil’s The Man Without Qualities

“all that was good and noble in humankind”
Thomas Kent Miller on the hidden H. Rider Haggard

“in constant communion with all other life-forms”
Adam Daly on the mysticism of John Cowper Powys

“she removed Death, the Tower, and the Ace and Ten of Swords”
James Doig on the occult fiction of Helen Simpson

Also: Reggie Oliver reviews a new biography of Jerome K. Jerome, and collections by Richard Gavin and Thana Niveau; Doug Anderson explores the highly personal Rockall fantasy world of Antony Swithin, and three rare fantasies by other hands; and John Howard reviews a study of John Brunner, The Epiphanist by William Rosencrans, and other new titles.

Re: Wormwood: Literature of the fantastic, supernatural and decadent

Any chance that Wormwood be made available for kindle? I do most of my nonfiction reading these days on my tablet. I would love to order all of the back issues that I have missed.
