Re: "A Season In Carcosa" and "The Grimscribe's Puppets" are coming!

My copy arrived in the post today - and a heck of a cold to match it! Seems my weekend plans just flew away to dark Carcosa!

My copy arrived as well. Pre-orders should be on their way to everyone, according to MRP's posts on Facebook.

Was looking around for a release date for "The Grimscribe's Puppets", and ran into this..

Reviews | VICE

The boys at Vice weren't impressed with the cover art OR the book itself - "Cover-album" of a "sub-Clive Barker" author...hmm.

also, Barnes & Noble has it listed as January 1, 2013 - is this true?

Re: "A Season In Carcosa" and "The Grimscribe's Puppets" are coming!

Not just a "sub-Clive Barker" writer but one "who intentionally keeps his work out of print to preserve his 'mystique.'” Aw, bless. You hardly ever see such ignorance of publishing realities in its purest form. If Ligotti's intention is to keep his work out of print, he's doing a pretty poor job of it.

Has Vice actually seen the book, or are they just responding to the fact of it? The latter could well be the case for a lot of the titles "reviewed" at the link.

Noonday Stars: a blog about horror fiction. Recent content includes essay on the new edition of Ligotti's The Agonizing Resurrection of Victor Frankenstein and Other Gothic Tales.

"Keeps his work out of print" = has reissued almost all his work during the past two years. Way to go, google is your friend, "journalists" at Vice.

Wouldn't be the first time I read a very, very biased review in Vice - sometimes they even say outright "I just don't like this writer - so this book sucks" - and it wouldn't surprise me if they just googled the book, downloaded the cover - read the wikipedia entry about Ligotti and ran with it.

Maybe they got the captions reversed on the "best cover" and "worst cover" graphics?

Re: "A Season In Carcosa" and "The Grimscribe's Puppets" are coming!

I wouldn't take a negative review in Vice too seriously. I've met half a dozen of their "writers" over the last ten years. Rich, inner-city, children of privilege living in one of their parents investment properties in the Boho section of town, and working for free - just so they can brag about what they do, get into free gigs, and infer their lifestyle is in some way paid for by their talent as a writer. The music they generally promote is made by the same narrow band of folks. Books too. William Burroughs is their king. Not bad people necessarily. Just a bad scene.

Why would anyone keep their work out of print? That's a ridiculous thing to level at a writer. Who could afford to do that... Oh, right.
