Re: More on Lovecraft

Interesting. I am still more excited about At The Mountains of Madness that Del Toro is supposed to direct.

Re: More on Lovecraft

I logged off about an hour ago to settle down for the night's reading. Finally got my copy of THE MONUMENT by Hank Whittemore, a study of Shakespeare's sonnets in which he demonstrates why the Works were written by Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford. I am entering into an online discussion with Hank on his book over at Amazon.com, but I had no idea it was so HUGE. Rather intimidated (but also extremely excited, as I adore studies of the Sonnets) by its size, I set it aside so as to begin the books I also got in to-day's poft, MADEMOISELLE DE MAUPIN and MY FANTOMS, by Theophile Gautier. Gautier is an author I have long wanted to read, but his books have been impossible for me to find until I went online and discover'd how easy it is to use my new credit card at Amazon (I'm gonna regret how easy it is....). MY FANTOMS is translated by Richard Holmes, the author of ye brilliant biographies, SHELLY: THE PURSUIT and COLERIDGE: EARLY VISIONS. I've just now read his charming introduction to his translation of these stories, and then I closed the book to rest my eyes & dream for a wee while; & glancing at the book's back cover, to my joyous astonishment, I saw:

"It is in Theophile Gautier that we first seem to find an authentic French sense of the unreal world, and here there appears a spectral mystery which...is genuine and profound." --H. P. Lovecraft.

I take this as a great & wonderful omen, portending that I will find my way into that new realm of fictive expression that I so desire to discover.

"We work in the dark -- we do what we can -- we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art."

The question is: WHEN will del Toro be finally able to do this? Due to THE HOBBIT the filming seems to be delayed until 2014 or some time later ...

Re: More on Lovecraft

I've just posted, as my profile photo at Facebook, the cover for the Ballantine Books pb edition, FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH & OTHER POEMS. People responded who used to own the book but lost it or read it to pieces, so I went to Amazon to see how much it was selling for. I know I've seen it for sale for $100 or more, but I happily found it for sale at Amazon for $10 and $12, quite remarkable prices. I decided to write a review of the book and explain that these were good prices, and then I wanted to quote the prices that the original Arkham House edition was going for, so I did a search on that -- found that it was selling from $150 to almost $400. I then noticed an edition selling for $175 -- & I had to order it. The seller was THOMAS LIGOTTI!!!!!!!!!!!!! I immediately clicked on the "Order with one click" thingie!!Maybe he'll sign it -- or maybe it will have his personal bookplate!!!!! It will be one of my prize possessions, and I will carry it with me when next I walk the sacred streets of Providence!!!

Re: More on Lovecraft

There's a fellow at YouTube who does Poetry Animations -- dead poets "reading" their poetry. This morning I suggested that he try doing one on Lovecraft -- & I find ye results quite wonderful. To find it, go to YouTube and search Lovecraft Poetry Animation.

Good to hear. I'm assuming this is the same fellow who did the animations of Poe reading some of his work. I recently recommended he do one of Lovecraft as well.

Re: More on Lovecraft

The gent, a London lad named Jim Clark, just posted two new Lovecraft readings to-day. I had no idea the recording of FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH that he is using existed. It's quite good. I am thrilled to see him doing these, and am sending him a pb edition of Lovecraft's Complete Poetry as a gesture of gratitude. My own vlogs have been getting a bit of attention, with ye one I did on Sex Pistols now reaching 300 views. For an old punk queer exhibitionist, YouTube is perfect! Gonna record a new one concerning Nyarlathotep to-night. Ia!

Re: More on Lovecraft

Ye H. P. Lovecraft issue of DARK DISCOVERIES magazine has just been publish'd -- & it is quite good. This is a good-looking quality publication, on nice slick stock with many colour reproductions of art and stills. There is an interview with Brian Lumley, but what really delighted me is that they reprinted Lumley's extension of Lovecraft's "The Thing in the Moonlight" -- and I think this rare piece has had but one reprinting since its initial publication. I've been wanting to read it again, keenly, and so this pleases me enormously -- & I wasn't disappointed! There is a short interview with S. T. Joshi, a write-up on the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhu Con, a concluding excerpt by Roger Anker on Charles Beaumont (part one was in the previous issue, whut was devoted entirely to The Twilight Zone), a fascinating article on the H. R. Giger Museum in Switzerland, with some wonderful photos of the artist's work, an interview with Dan O'Bannon (who has spent twenty years writing his own complete version of the Necronomicon!!!), an article on Marvel Comics and the Cthulhu Mythos, and much more. Short fiction by W. H. Pugmire, Cody Goodfellow, David A. Riley, Glen Singer and others.

For ordering information visit Dark Discoveries Magazine.

A couple days ago I did a live interview with one of the magazine's editors and art directors, Jason V Brock. You may find it at
