Ligotti Quotation Database - Forum Guidelines

The online quotation database has been removed from the site. Instead, the quotations will be collected and discussed directly within the forums. Most quotations have been transferred already, with member contributions to follow. If you see a post from yourself relative to a quotation you previously submitted to the quotation database, this is merely a transfer taking place.

While I was reasonably satisfied with the stand alone quotation interface, I decided to abandon it for several reasons. Foremost, it was a separate engine requiring additional registration measures and lacked integration with the main forum. Integration within the forum will hopefully initiate more submissions and subsequent discussion, as the previous interface had not received a submission in several months.

One drawback is that the quotations are not maintained in a standard format, and instead are subject to the input of the member. I would like to maintain a certain level of continuity, therefore I request that quotations are submitted by adhering to the following guidelines:
  1. Select the appropriate category, by collection or type. If a corresponding category does not yet exist, post the quotation in the main Quotation Forum.
  2. Subject: QUOTATION TITLE (select an appropriate snippet from the quotation body, with initial caps for each word).
  3. Description of your topic: Quotation from "STORYNAME".
  4. Immediately select the QUOTE format button (message balloon).
  5. Type the quotation verbatim.
  6. Hit ENTER twice to create separated line break.
  7. Select the ITALICS format button (I).
  8. Type "Thomas Ligotti - "STORYNAME".
  9. Select the ITALICS format button (I).
  10. Select the QUOTE format button.
  11. You may then optionally continue your post with comments regarding your selection.
If you have any problems matching the format as requested, do not let this keep you from contributing, as I can make formatting corrections if necessary. The QUOTATIONS selection from the main navigation menu of the entry portal will now take you directly to the Quotation Forum, if you are not already there. Scans of corresponding sources complement the main category selection forum and additional categories will be added very soon.

Dr. Bantham,
I probably anticipate your intentions.... I assume MWINYD, Crampton, etc. will eventually be added so that members have a proper place to go for posting and response. Would "Purity", previously uncollected, be a stand-alone entry? Sorry, I just happened to have this monkey wrench in my hand....

Tibet: Gas stations?
Ligotti: Nothing to say about gas stations as such, although I've always responded to the smell of gasoline as if it were a kind of perfume.

I didn't clarify. What happens when a "new"collection is mostly reprint?

Yes, the remaining collections will be added soon. Throw them in the general category if a proper home does not exist, and I will sort them out later. Wayward tales will likely be itemized by Small Press, Miscellaneous or some suitable confine. I have pondered such quandaries, you see, and you best be placing thine monkey wrench in yonder tool shed.

Good one. Though I have not wholly solved this one, I have been researching on how to create "shadow topics", wherein posts are replicated in linked categories. Post in one and it shows in all. I have not refined the code, however. Careful with that monkey wrench, Eugene.
