Re: Last TV show you watched

The BBC documentary In Search of Beowulf. I found it quite moving to watch a contemporary television program that approaches ancient history, literature, poetry, and myth with an attitude of reverence. Also, I found the picture it paints of dark age British monasteries filled with Christian monks avid for old pagan tales of dragons and brawny heroes with magic swords irresistibly charming and beautiful.

Re: Last TV show you watched

I just finished the second season of True Detective.
It can't compare to season 1, but on its own it was great.
It felt like a David Lynch pastiche with annoying music and without the overt spookiness.

Re: Last TV show you watched

I watched Yes, Prime Minister to see what it was all about. I thought it was very good in the beginning. Unfortunately, I lost interest after Season 2.

"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."

It was crap, then?

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

A 1988 Dutch television documentary called The Sound of Progress, which was a series of interviews of British underground bands (Coil, Foetus, Current 93, Test Dept.) on their opinions of pop music. Rare concert footage as a bonus. You can watch it here:

Ha ha, I love that Sound of Progress video. I remember posting that on Facebook once and commenting how it seemed like the people involved were in a contest as to who could come off as the most pretentious (in my opinion, I think David Tibet takes the cake there). Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing!

If this were called something other than Season 2 of True Detective. it would have stood up well. I didn't think it was crappy at all. I enjoyed it. I would even recommend it if you can't think of anything else to watch.

Penny Dreadful continues to intrigue in its third season. I hope it isn't the last.

Re: Last TV show you watched

Wallander: The Troubled Man; simply amazing, as was episode 5 of Game of Thrones.

I mean, Hold the Door? Pure brilliance.

Re: Last TV show you watched

Reminded me a lot of the 70s British horror film Death Line in which the cannibal of the underground train station only knows the words "mind the doors".
