2014.. what forthcoming books are you excited about?

There looks to be some great books coming out this year and I was wondering which books people are looking forward too and also if some are coming out I may have not heard about yet. I am VERY excited about the 2 new Ligotti books coming out.. The Spectral Link and Born to Fear! Those are must buys! Also looking forward to The Children of Old Leech tribute anthology. It will be fun to see what they do with Barron's mythos in that one. The Years Best Weird Fiction has am amazing table of contents and also is a must buy. Ana Kai Tangata has been getting a lot of great reviews and Scott Nicolay is a new author on the scene so I want to see what that one is all about. So what are you guys and gals looking forward to this year?

Re: 2014.. what forthcoming books are you excited about?

Well, I keep thinking about the rumor that Ash Tree was going to publish The White Road by Ron Weighell and that's very exciting, if true.

Re: 2014.. what forthcoming books are you excited about?

Scott Nicolay's ANNA KAI TANGATA is high on my anticipation list too. I know it is already out, but I ordered the deluxe edition, and those aren't ready yet so it is technically still forthcoming.

Mike Griffin has a chapbook (his first) coming soon from Dynatox Ministries, FAR FROM STREETS. Based on what I've read of his work so far (in THE GRIMSCRIBE'S PUPPETS and various web publications), I am very much looking forward to that.

Sometime this summer, Centipede Press will publish an omnibus edition of Michael Shea's Nifft the Lean stories. The Centipede edition of Shea's horror stories (THE AUTOPSY) is great, so even though I have paperback copies of the Nifft stories and little expendable cash, I plan to get it anyway.

And, let's not forget the new Simon Strantzas collection from Hippocampus, BURNT BLACK SUNS. I have yet to read anything from Mr. Strantzas that I haven't greatly enjoyed.

Re: 2014.. what forthcoming books are you excited about?

Thanks for the mention of FAR FROM STREETS, Sam. In case anyone else might be interested, here's a link. It's nearly sold out! Dynatox Ministries | FAR FROM STREETS by Michael Griffin | Online Store Powered by Storenvy

As a reader, my own most anticipated books of 2014 have already been mentioned.

ANA KAI TANGATA, I just finished reading and it was very impressive. Absolutely top-notch weird fiction, and sure to get some attention come awards time.

BURNT BLACK SUNS should be a great one too. I've always like Simon's work and love the idea of Strantzas writing lengthier and darker stuff.

YEAR'S BEST WEIRD FICTION will be a must-buy for sure.

I'm very excited about CHILDREN OF OLD LEECH, and though I have a story in it, my excitement is mostly in the reader/fanboy category. I can't wait to see what the other writers have done with the opportunity to play with Laird Barron's toys.

I've preordered the two Ligotti books from Subterranean and am excited about those too, though these are probably a given for everybody reading this forum.

Re: 2014.. what forthcoming books are you excited about?

- I'll through my two cents in for the Ligotti volumes and Children of Old Leech, all of which I am eagerly awaiting, but something I am really excited for is David Cronenberg's first novel Consumed, which I have been waiting for since it was first announced in '08 and continually delayed ever since. Since I really enjoyed There is No Year, I am also looking forward to Blake Butler's next tome Three Hundred Million as well. Anthologies like Datlow's Fearful Symmetries (and Nightmare Carnival) and Barron's Year's Best Weird Fiction and Joshi's Madness of Cthulhu are on the list also, and if Weighell's White Road gets a new edition that would be wonderful, although at the moment I am tided over waiting for his new collection Summonings, which I pre-ordered.

Oh, I forgot FEARFUL SYMMETRIES. There should be a lot of great stuff there, too. I consider Ellen Datlow the best editor in weird/horror fiction, and lately she hasn't released many anthologies of all new material.

Just picked up Far From The Streets. It sounds like my kind of story.

Thanks, njhorror, I appreciate that. I didn't want to come on here and push it, but since Sam brought it up I thought I might at least share a link so people would know what he's talking about.

Re: 2014.. what forthcoming books are you excited about?

Besides books already mentioned, I'm looking forward to Ellen Datlow's NIGHTMARE CARNIVAL. I find the concept of horror stories set in a carnival/circus environment most appealing and there should be more books like this. Off the top of my head, some of the contributors are Laird Barron and Joel Lane.

On my wish list for 2014 publications is first and foremost the collection of uncollected & new stories by Mark Samuels.
