Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

I plan to submit something in the future, but first I have to read way more weird fiction and philosophy to be able to do so.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

My meds have increased my confidence in myself above stark self-loathing, so I'll submit something if the deadline isn't too soon. Maybe.

It is great that meds are working for you. Coffee and cigarettes sure as Hell are not working for me.

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

I'm on 100mg of sertraline in the morning and 100mg of quetiapine in the evening. I now leave my house for a walk every day and sometimes go to the store. Doesn't sound much, but it's a big improvement from where I was at.

Coffee kicks my anxiety in to overdrive so I never touch the stuff any more. Cigarettes both help and hinder my anxiety due to them alleviating my addiction pangs and their pernicious effect on my palpitations. I was a 20 a day smoker for the better part of 8 years, but now I can go a month without touching one of them.

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Not to be the guy who gives unsolicited advice, but I think the Vastarien editors should consider contacting the person who mentioned having a translator for one of Ulrich Horstmann's works, and maybe publishing some excerpts.

I recall there was someone who translated excerpts from Zapffe's 'On the Tragic' here, so maybe try to encourage them to contribute translated sections to Vastarien, as well.

And if you can find someone to translate Mainlander...

I guess I'm saying that one of the things that would make the journal especially valuable to people like me, would be if you include translations from some of the obscure Ligotti influences that are almost impossible to read in English. The deep pessimists.

That would be great. Anyway, just throwing that out there.

Perhaps some untranslated short stories by more obscure Ligotti influences, as well, like Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz and Danilo Kiš.

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

If I could be of some help, translating something from spanish, I'd love to. Even if I am an amateur, i have done translations.

Hopefully I can contribute some day. This seems a great project and I wish the best of luck

I am loving everything about this project. What's the timeline on publication and when copies will be available?

Same here. If Spiral is not available, count me in for that.
