Of course,you realize it would have to apply to Islamic mosques as well. And to the ranting of Scientologists. And why not to the tedious preaching of Marxists, Liberals, Conservatives? Fine them--screw taxes!-- every time a lie is passed as truth or a debatable point is dragged up.

Apparently, you really like bureaucracy. Freedom? Maybe not so much.

I read this thinking it was an exaggerated summary, a kind of reductio ad absurdum, of what our occult friend had written. Then I came to the attribution at the end and realised-and-remembered it was a verbatim quote.

Sensible reply: this is quite OT but I think religious organizations should only get "special" tax exempt status (as opposed to that granted all Non-Profit organizations) if it's known to perform charity works which are not exclusively missionary in nature.

Other reply: If X's proposals were enacted would NATO and associated organizations have, in the name of Religious Freedom, to bomb US military bases and political centers until that nation gave up its WMDs?

One thing you can do. You can create a friendly environment for fascism by trying to regulate all truth.

I have no interest in what people "want or need to be true" - what an apt and pathetic statement that is! - If the truth kicks some people's teeth out, so be it. I don't profess to be an arbiter of truth, but I can recognize lies when I see them. This is sadly a rare commodity in this world. As far as "regulating the truth," lies should be called out on. For laughs, everyone should be required to take a course in "Ethics in Law."

Some people, braying about logic, do not understand the first thing about logic. If everything is a fraud, then there is certainly no truth to kick people's teeth out.

"Lies should be called out on". Is there a difference between a lie and a fraud? If not, as (it seems) "everything is fraud", everything should be "called out on", whatever that means.

One far more reasonable thing that could be done about christians, as well as other organized religions in US, is not allowing parents to force their underage kids to attend sermons and such. Basically, religious propaganda is being forced on children who are at their most malleable and who have no say in the matter.
