Ligotti anecdote

Don't suppose anyone can dig up this old photo?

"At this point, I should mention that Ligotti is an old friend and former co-worker. We once toiled together in the literary reference book racket and collaborated briefly on an unfinished novel. I was proud to republish one of his short stories in a magazine I edited 20 years ago. Much of the time we discussed British Blues Rock, movies and the matinee concerts he attended at the Grande Ballroom in the 1960s (Time magazine even ran a picture of The Cream performing at the Grande, and that’s a teenaged Tom sitting cross-legged on the stage as the band jammed). Beyond that, we’ve nothing much else in common other than a respect I hope is mutual despite our wildly divergent views on politics, the Sopranos and religion."

Re: Ligotti anecdote

"The Grande Ballroom was retooled in 1966 from a dancing venue to the cradle of rock 'n' roll. For six years, the Grande supported young psychedelic bands like Led Zeppelin and Cream that were later legends of their era. Now subject of nostalgic ruin porn, the Grande closed in 1972 and its infrastructure continues to wane despite posters saying it is the “Future home of Chapel Hill Ministries.” With concert bills showing Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, and The Who in one weekend, seeing a concert at the Grande was a rite of passage for Detroit’s Woodstock generation."
