World Fantasy Convention #1
I was rereading an old issue of Whispers magazine. In it, was Dave Drake's report of the First World Fantasy Convention (1975) in Providence.
I think TLO members would enjoy this essay, and Dave graciously gave me permission to reprint. If necessary, open images in another tab to enlarge. A followup interview in 2016 = En con-gænger krydser sit spor: David Drake fortæller | Dave's thoughts on Whispers = Whispers Magazine David Drake Thank you again, Dave, and best wishes.

Re: World Fantasy Convention #1
I miss Bloch, Grant, Wilson, McCauley, and Wagner, almost as if they were dead friends of mine, even though I never met or had any communication with any of them whatsoever, and now I'm regretting not taking the chance to thank them all while it was still possible.

There are conventions where you might encounter. I have never attended a single one, and don’t know which offer a better lineup of writers as opposed to horror movie stars. Also, I don’t know if current conventions are like factory assembly lines. Others could weigh in on this. There are certainly writers here at TLO. You could always shoot them a PM. Tell them what works of theirs you especially enjoyed. If something resonated. If I do get a response, I try to keep exchanges brief. Most of these folks are busy, and don’t want a pen pal correspondence, no matter how insightful you are. Back in the day, I used to write them letters. Boy, did I write letters! That was a different era, however. I ought to write a couple lines about that. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Many of the current crop are shuffling along in age.
