Re: Sarob Press
I've just finished reading Ron Weighell's THE LETTER KILLETH in this book and I must admit it's not to my taste. Lovecraft said that Blackwood's faults included "a too free use of the trade jargon of modern 'occultism'". I think Blackwood is rarely (if ever) guilty of this but THE LETTER KILLETH certainly is. The casual, jaunty dialogue and streams of occult jargon kill any weird atmosphere and convey none of the awesome sense of supernatural presence that Blackwood evoked so powerfully. It may be fine for those who like a jolly psychic detective romp, but to me it's as close to the Blackwood tradition as Lin Carter's attempts to complete Cthulhu's family tree are to the Lovecraft tradition - and like most books these days it hasn't been properly proofread ("passed" for "past", "breeched" for "breached" and "demure" for "demur").
I hope the next two stories are better. They seem to have more description and less dialogue so that's promising!

Re: Sarob Press
I've noticed those editing errors as well, and Weighell's stories don't seem to flow as smoothly as other authors.

Re: Sarob Press
Just finished the other two stories and they are much better.
Blackwood is inimitable but IN THE CLEARING by John Howard and particularly THE FIG GARDEN by Mark Valentine have some of the atmospheric glow of the master's work and are definitely in the "Blackwood tradition".

Re: Sarob Press
Just finished The Letter Killeth by Ron Weighell and enjoyed it very much. He includes some of the details that I wish Blackwood would have.

Re: Sarob Press
I'm halfway through IN THE CLEARING by John Howard. It's very well written and very much in the style of Blackwood. An excellent story, so far. It touches on "nature themes" which I enjoy.

Re: Sarob Press
Finished In The Clearing by John Howard. A very good story where the supernatural romance supersedes all others It reminded me of The Man Whom The Trees Loved.

Surprised no mention of Bell's Phantasms.
Choice selection, and a nicely made book. If not sold out, then very nearly so.

Re: Sarob Press
Yeah, I actually even missed the original announcement from Sarob. They are sold out at the publisher, but you can still find copies from retailers. What isn't sold out is the last installment of their Three Imposters series, From Ancient Ravens.

Re: Sarob Press
Yes, my copy of From Ancient Ravens arrived last week.
Looking forward to reading, though I have a couple of other books queued in front of it. Three signatures, and a silk inlay ribbon.
