Re: Video Games
I'm looking forward to Brutal Legend. You can't beat an open game world filled with insane imagery from metal album covers.

Re: Video Games
The game itself is crazy fun and quite intense, surprising so actually. Let's just say the atmosphere isn't exactly the same as Ligotti's, however, many of the areas, especially those where the air is laced with Scarecrow's hallucinogenic gas, turn into some of the most Ligottian locales in any game I've seen.

Re: Video Games
Arkham Asylum and Brutal Legend had me contemplating a PS3 purchase, but finances will not allow. Wow, those look like fun. Instead, I bought a used game for my venerable PS2, "The Suffering: Ties That Bind". Only $8, looks pretty creepy but with more action than the typical survival horror product. Time will tell!

Re: Video Games
I bought a PS3 slim on the basis of Demon's Souls, and am not displeased. It plays out like a mix of Zelda and Diablo 2 with a Shadow of the Colossus-esque art style.
My Top 10 1 Shadow of the Colossus 2 Ocarina of Time 3 Metal Gear Solid 3 4 Super Metroid 5 Demon's Souls PS I'm changing my top 10 into a top 5 |

Re: Video Games
My favorite of the locales are the Tower of Latria and the Shrine of Storms, the former being, along with certain levels from the original Thief: The Dark Project, one the most intimidating levels of any game I've played, all because of those cthulhu-looking guardians. My guy is not weak, but just because of that damn spell they have, I stay as far away from them as possible and shoot them with arrows until they die. Yeah, until I beat it, consider me addicted. Perfect game to play around Halloween. In antiquity fantasy and horror were not distinct from one another, its a shame most straight fantasy endeavors always have to follow that mindless 'Lord of the Rings' prototype.

Re: Video Games
My Xbox 360 was stricken with the dreaded "Red Ring of Death" last night. In the middle of a game it glitched up. No! I screamed. But there it was, staring at me; the three-lobed burning eye! *sigh*
For those unfamiliar with Xbox lore, if you get a display of 'three red lights in a ring' it means your console is toast. Fortunately mine is still under warranty. But it will take about a month to get repaired. Still, it blows. Welcome to video game hell.

Re: Video Games
Ouch, my condolences. Warranty or not, a month for a repair blows. I am still drooling over the PS3, but briefly considered a 360 as an interim measure... I have heard Xbox 360s are prone to high rates of failure, and that is one of the reasons I haven't picked one up. Is this your first mishap?
I have had two PS2 consoles since 2001. My current one was bought about 4 years ago and is still plugging away. I give Sony that, they make some high-quality gear. My sister has some Sony audio components she bought almost 20 years ago that still sound great. Anyway, good luck on a speedy recovery!
