Melancholia Will Destroy The World

I wouldn't describe myself as a fan of Lars Von Trier, although I've seen most of his films, but I heartily recommend watching his latest one. I just did so right here (for free): Watch Melancholia online - Watch Movies Online, Full Movies, Download

I think it will bring a smile on the face of anyone who are sickened to death by the prospect of life going on on this planet for much longer.

And what a wonderful use of the prelude to Wagner's Tristan & Isolde.

Enough said.

Melancholia made an impression on me also. Thematically wonderful and thought-provoking, although I felt the execution was slightly off-target: Say No To Life: "Life is Evil"

Re: Melancholia Will Destroy The World

Just saw Melancholia a few hours ago. I loved it.

My first Lars von Trier film was Dancer in the Dark and I hated it. I've avoided watching anything by him since. However I started watching his tv series Kingdom on Netflix and really enjoyed it. Now I think I'll give other work a fair chance.

I still think Epidemic (1987) is his most succesful and frightening film about melancholia and the end of our world.

Re: Melancholia Will Destroy The World

I have yet to like a Lars Von Trier movie.Although I try more than I think he deserves.

I watched

Kingdom Hospital
Element of Crime
Dogville (this one was ok)
AntiChrist
Nimphomaniac 1 and 2 (Absolutely stupid movies)

But when I wake up from my nap I will try Melancholia. My girlfriend watched and said it made her very depressed for days.Well, I think I mentioned it somewhere else but the Song "Kirsten Supine" from Swan´s To Be Kind is inspired by a scene from that movie...

Re: Melancholia Will Destroy The World

von Trier creates some incredible atmospheres within his movies, but his films never leave me with any kind of satisfaction whatsoever. Melancholia had it's moments, but the whole wedding ordeal was too damn long and absolutely exhausting to the point of frustration. But, the conversation between Justine and Claire was pretty great, and Kirsten Dunst's performance was surprisingly good, among other things. ;)

von Trier is a guy I will always keep a lookout for. Love or hate, he makes interesting films that are worth the time overall, I think.

Re: Melancholia Will Destroy The World

I liked Melancholia very much even if I don't think its among hes best works, also I find it strange that people consider Melancholia depressing - its probably hes most optimistic film so far, one way or another we gonna end up at in some kind of holocaust at least we can have some dignity in it - even that is enough by LVT standards to call him optimistic.
Hes last film - Nymphomaniac was kinda weak but it felt like something that just have to be done, some lines of dialogue/scenes were clearly inspired by Marquis and I welcome that, of course its to long and to pathetic and to sadistic... but that's only usual affairs for Lars. Anti-Love movie? - love had it coming. Proposals and ideas of Nymphomaniac are more interesting than film it self but I'm glad he done it anyway.

Thanks for the reminder, Severini; I'd forgotten this.

Re: Melancholia Will Destroy The World

I was hesitant to see Melancholia because I really disliked Dancer in the Dark.
But then I watched The Kingdom and knew that I should give him a second chance. I'm glad I did. I loved Melancholia. It was a great Christmas film. ;)

If you haven't watched The Kingdom, it's worth it if only for the enraged rants at Denmark that end every episode.
