Re: Egaeus Press

Ps. I originally edited this out of my statement, because it seems somehow petty, and the great Avalon Brantley isn't here to confirm details, but I shall mention it here... I believe Avalon submitted a novel to Egaeus a long time ago before she had dealings with Ex Occidente, though I didn't have space then to accept it. I was impressed enough however to later invite her to submit to the Murder Ballads anthology (possibly before I knew she had been published by Ex Occidente, but I don't remember). Although the first story she sent didn't quite fit, it was wonderful and wintry enough that I chose to include it in the Midwinter Entertainment book instead. (She later submitted a more fitting story for Murder Ballads.)

Sadly, we never had time to work together further. I like to think we would have.

Had she written more & lived longer as she should have, I hope she wouldn't have been considered part of any single 'stable'.

Re: Egaeus Press

Actually, i really like the fact that Egaeus often reprints Ex Occidente authors. Ex Occidente stuff is far out of my price range. Egaeus, on the other hand, combines far more accessible prices with really great production values.

For example, I would never have read Adam S. Cantwell if his stories remained limited to their original Ex Occidente publications.

some stuff about Egaeus vs Ex Occidente
I rarely ever participate in discussions on this forum, but if I may: while it might seem odd that a fair number of Egaeus books are reprints of previous EO titles, I think this is inevitable given that there seems to be common ground on aesthetics between the two publishers. As well, like somebody pointed out before, it's nothing short of fantastic that long out of print EO titles see the light of day again as reprints. It would be a real shame if the various authors' wonderful works could be only enjoyed by the few who can afford or, indeed, snatch a copy of the EO stuff before they disappear into this legendary "out of print" zone (case in point: the DP Watt and John Howard books).
So, bravo to you, Egaeus sir.

Now, if only somebody would do a reprint of Reggie Oliver's Wounds of Exile... *hint hint*

A hundred times this.

And thanks to the publisher for those detailed and interesting statements.
