Re: The Raven read by Christopher Walken
I've had this for several years and it's so, ...well, so Christopher Walken-esque that you have to love it. At least if you're a fan of his, which I am. Just for the record, I sent the MP3 of it to Tom about 4 or five years ago and he thought it was funny as hell. He's a huge Walken fan like myself so he appreciated it for what it is. I have actually collected the majority of Poe's work that's been put to audio, and have a great deal of the Lovecraft stuff that exists in tape or MP3 format, one of my all-time favorites being a reading of The Outsider, one of my favorite shorts of his (and of all time), by a narrator whose name escapes me right now, but which was recorded probably thirty or 40 years ago. I also have a version of The Conqueror Worm which is one of the more effectively read short works I've ever heard. The narrator is very James Earl Jones-ish sounding, and may in fact be him reading it, but I can't recall off the top of my head. His voice is so deep that it's almost uncanny and suits the work perfectly. His execution is flawless as well.
I can't remember the details because I haven't listened to them in quite some time, and I have about 4 or 500 gigs of music, film and so forth on hard drives/storage devices that I hardly have time to actually scratch the surface of. I'll see if I can put up a link to the The Conqueror Worm. It obviously isn't as cool as Christopher Walken reading something, but it's really, really good. The only thing that this reading needs is a little more cow bell....;) | |||||||||||
I tell you everything that is really nothing, and nothing of what is everything, do not be fooled by what I am saying. Please listen carefully and try to hear what I am not saying. ~Charles C. Finn
