Re: Limited Editions of Noctuary and Grimscribe?

Tim, are you a time traveler or just able to get an advance copy of the new SOADD?

Gorgeous title page and Ligotti signature. I hadn't known of any evolution in Tom's handwriting until this thread popped up discussing it. Strange to say, maybe, but Ligotti's handwriting strikes me as being very "sturdy:" solid lettering, caps, etc. Not that it really matters. This thought passed through my head earlier this year when I acquired a few inscribed books.

Re: Limited Editions of Noctuary and Grimscribe?

No, I'm not a time traveler, contrary to popular belief, and yes, that's an uncorrected proof of the upcoming SoaDD. I haven't spoken about it and will especially avoid talking about specifics, but I will say this; people are in for a really interesting surprise with this edition. I have read through most of the "newly revised" stories after having read them all numerous times before. I won't ruin the surprise, but for anyone thinking that this is simply a republication of these stories is quite wrong. Let's just say a great deal of work went into these revisions on Tom's part. He meticulously went through these works with a critical eye and it shows.
You'll see what I mean when you get it.

Wonderful, I look forward to it. My suspense is certainly mounting for this collection. I tend to appreciate the instances where writers continue to sculpt old masterpieces. With Tom, I'm sure it's pretty damned near perfection. Next year will be a good one for new Ligotti writing, especially if Hippocampus gets TCATHR out before the end of 2010.

Looking at the inscription that Ascrobius just posted, I wonder if T. L. used to take drafting classes -- back in the days before CAD.

(Spoken by someone who used to take drafting classes -- back in the days before CAD.)

Re: Limited Editions of Noctuary and Grimscribe?

I think I know what you mean about the whole "drafting" thing. I used to be a steel fabricator, back in another life, and used to build industrial incinerators and heat-treating ovens from blueprints pre-CAD, and the style of writing on those blueprints created by the draftsman had a kind of uniformity to it that was striking, having almost box-like lettering, if you will. Now that you mention it, I think I know what you're referring to, having seen hundreds of blueprints. I am not positive, but I am pretty sure Tom never took drafting lessons, though I could be wrong. I'll ask him just for the hell of it, though. My brother is also a draftsman by trade who happens to own his own company, and his print has some of the qualities I think we're both referring to.
Incidentally, based on what I know, I'd be shocked if TCATHR wasn't released by the end of next year. I look forward to people's reaction to it. By its very nature, I think the work will have an extremely polarizing effect on those that actually read it.

Re: Limited Editions of Noctuary and Grimscribe?

On the issue of signatures, I remembered that there is a signature-like imprint of "Thomas Ligotti" on the covers of both graphic novels by Fox Atomic. Does anyone know if this is something from Tom's own handwriting or merely a stylized name by the cover artists?

I believe the latter as opposed to the former. I'll find out, but I think I already know the answer.

Re: Limited Editions of Noctuary and Grimscribe?

A wonderful thread! I've already got 2 editions of 'Songs,' (signed, as a matter of fact) and I had thought to pass on this new one. Thanks, Ascrobius, for the information.

Hey, it's just money!

Ascrobius, does your copy of SOADD include the cover? I'm curious how the artwork turned out on it.
