Re: What Movie Would You Like to See Remade?

Things I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of, and why.

Suicide Club - I adore the original, so i would want a shot-for-shot remake with an american cast and a wide theatrical release. So i can see it on the big screen ^_^

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Live action remake. James Woods as Batman and Owlman. because the Owlman in this is one of my favorite villains for trying to erase all parallel/alternate/etc earths at once. also, it has been a few years since DC had a decent movie in theaters.

The punisher. There's a great punisher fan movie out there called "laundry day." it is not family friendly, but it is findable on google/youtube and is a shining example of what a good punisher movie can look like. I would like whoever made that to make feature-length more of the same.

Silence of the Lambs. since the Hannibal series is a reboot starting before Red Dragon, this could work after they finally catch Hannibal. Mads Mikkelsen is quite nice as the good doctor.

Dune. Bring back David Lynch and all the Giger designs from the original, but with a script that actually resembles the book. then continue franchise through as many of the books as possible. Kyle machlachlan can be stilgar.

The Butcher. I'm referring to the korean slasher movie with this title. I'd love a US remake. chainsaws. pig masks. mobsters. everything a US audience loves. cast whatever annoying pop stars have been in the news too much for their bad behavior as the victims, and people will line up around the block to watch.

The fan that made that was actually Tom Jane, who played Frank Castle in the 2004 movie but yeah, Marvel should give him money for a Punisher movie and cut him loose. Don't force it into the Avengers universe or anything, just let him do his thing. (Though, if possible, try to talk him into doing something off Garth Ennis' Punisher MAX series. Say, "The Slavers" or "Kitchen Irish.")

Re: What Movie Would You Like to See Remade?

This film is so outside the realm of Ligotti and the horror genre that I kind of feel foolish bringing it up, but I'd love to see a remake of the old Paul Newman and Melvyn Douglas vehicle 'HUD'. It's already a near masterpiece, but they didn't follow the excellent novel quite close enough. The housekeeper was supposed to be black, which would have been much more powerful, but they chickened out and rolled with a white lady. Of course, back then there was no way Paul Newman would be romantic with a "colored girl", at least that's what the studio heads clearly thought.

I hope the choice in my OP doesn't imply I was only referring to horror movies. That movie just gave me the idea for this thread.

I was not familiar with the source material for the film Hud -Horseman, Pass By by Larry McMurtry. Love the movie. Paul Newman was a great actor. Interesting observation. It probably would have been a bit too much back then for a general audience in the U.S.

No, my friend, you didn't imply that this was a horror only thread at all. Not sure why I was feeling insecure about it at that particular moment, ha ha ha.

Darkman (1990).

Neeson could actually replay his role.
This ought to be a full bore Noir, greed vengeance and doomed love.
Raimi's fondness for silliness and zaniness were out of place.
Larry Drake made a fine villain, though his voice lacked gravitas.
Over at the FanEdit community, an attempt was made to fix this film.
The editor did excise the silliness, though Drake's timber remains thin.
