Wow, that's some great news indeed

Not quite the same, but at the time that detective show was airing TCATHR shot up as Amazon's best-selling book in their "philosophy" section, and even ran out of stock.

Re: Is A Penguin Classics Ligotti Reprint Forthcoming?

Any collection would be appreciated but I think an omnibus consisting of as many of his collections as possible would be great. But that's probably unrealistic for someone who isn't a major figure to general readers. I think Penguin likes to keep them slim, otherwise the Lovecraft and M.R. James collections maybe would have had fewer volumes.

Yes, the best single book to reprint would be The Nightmare Factory, or even better something similar to it but expanded. My copy clocks in at 551 pages. But agreed, this may be too much to ask for.

I need to keep my virtual mouth shut, but it is my understanding that the volume in question will NOT be a slim one.

Re: Is A Penguin Classics Ligotti Reprint Forthcoming?

I couldn't care less if True Detective is the reason for this; it was about time!

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Near the end of a recent blog post, Jeff VanderMeer made brief mention of working on an introduction to a forthcoming Ligotti reprint for Penguin Classics. Exciting!

Re: Is A Penguin Classics Ligotti Reprint Forthcoming?

I would imagine that this will be a Collected Works volume, knowing Penguin's taste for such things. I doubt very much that they would just reissue one particular collection. I'm imagining that this forthcoming volume will be all they publish of Tom's work, so them releasing an all-encompassing best-of, as it were, would be my guessing.

I think I missed this apposite remark.

The thing with the Morrissey book is that, I believe, whilst writing it, he demanded of Penguin he be included in their classics imprint. I love Morrissey (only slightly, only slightly less than I used to) but that single act made me think all the reports about him being a celebrity egomaniac and control-freak were probably understated.

On the other hand Ligotti has been honoured without any of the same self-promoting nonsense. In fact he's done so from the cultural shadows, from authenticity, that is: from almost nowhere.

And, too, the man genuinely deserves it. Posterity will validate the choice.
