Re: Where are all the great Horror writers?

I don't know what the point of that article is. I feel we are going through a golden age of horror lit. Sooo many great authors out there.

Re: Where are all the great Horror writers?

"For a while now, so-called "literary" and "genre" fiction have been moving from outright opposition to a cautious rapprochement. Literary writers such as Jonathan Lethem, Donna Tartt and Michael Chabon increasingly deploy tropes and images from genre, while genre writers have upped their stakes considerably in terms of complexity, moral resonance and style. Sophie Hannah, Josh Bazell and Denise Mina have reinvented crime fiction; Charles Yu, Iain M Banks and M John Harrison have given a literary uplift to science fiction; while China Miéville, Jeff VanderMeer and Kelly Link have done the same for fantasy. But horror – the third aspect of "speculative fiction" – has had markedly less success."

Okay...am I the only person hear to find this article to be 1. uninformed and 2. patronizing? Hell, Chabon's "The God of Dark Laughter" is included in Peter Straub's American Fantastic Tales antho and is pretty much a horror tale.

Then there's Tom's work. Ramsey Campbell's work. Glen Hirshberg's work. (And that's just naming some of my faves).

I take heart in knowing that Rose Fox of Publishers Weekly has just penned a rebuttal to this piece on her Genreville blog. Take a gander. Good stuff.

Re: Where are all the great Horror writers?

Rose Fox's response says pretty much what I would've said.
