Doctor Who

"You are deep inside this dream, all right, and it is a shared mental state, so it is drawing power from the multi-consciousness gestalt..." - spoken by Santa Claus in last night's Doctor Who.

The whole story-line reminded me in real-time of Dream Sickness and the need to gain places on the surface of our planet where you can be sure that what you are experiencing is a dream or not a dream etc (cf the Zoo area in Nemonymous Night and Area X or Southern Reach in Area X.)

I sense that Area X's author invites such connections among many connections from his readers...

Re: Doctor Who

My one and only Doctor Who is the great Christopher Eccleston

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

A coin toss between Sylvester McCoy and William Hartnell for me. I dig their more mysterious incarnations and bolder stories.

Re: Doctor Who

Even though I have not seen Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who, I will add him to Eccleston as my favorite because he is an awesome actor. That Scottish accent... My God.

Re: Doctor Who

I was just thinking ... If it hadn't been used already, the name Doctor Who would have been a brilliant one for a Ligotti character.

Re: Doctor Who

My favourite memories of Dr Who tend to come from the Target novelizations. Especially those written by Terrance Dicks.

Re: Doctor Who

Due to the Horror Channel currently appearing on Freeview I've been catching random episodes of various Dr Who serials: City of Death, Planet of Evil, Stones of Blood, The Keeper of Traken. Random thoughts: Tom Baker is great as the Doctor; K9 is bloody annoying; some of the effects stand up surprisingly well, especially considering the shoestring budget; some other effects must have looked naff even in 1975; I'd forgotten I used to have a crush on Mary Tamm.

Re: Doctor Who

Rewatched The Horror of Fang Rock. Much better than I remembered it being. The trick to watching old school Dr Who (apart from making allowances for wobbly sets, cheap special effects and dated, melodramatic music) is to allow gaps between the episodes so you don't get annoyed about sitting through the recaps of the cliffhangers.
