Re: The Spectral Link by Thomas Ligotti

I knew that Metaphysica Morum would create controversy because of the undeniable (and intentional) stridency of the protagonist, but I think there's so much going on in the story of great value. It's intricately layered. But I've already posted my review weeks ago, so I won't waste everyone's time by repeating myself.

"Thomas Ligotti is a master of a different order, practically a different species. He probably couldn’t fake it if he tried, and he never tries. He writes like horror incarnate.”

Re: The Spectral Link by Thomas Ligotti

I want to correct myself on one important point: "Metaphysica Morum" was not written ironically or written to be taken ironically. The title certainly could be taken so, but the whole piece is not and was not constructed in such a way. I misunderstood an email from Tom regarding the story some weeks back. My apologies.

Ah, you also met with disappointment! I had to resort to purchasing a second-hand copy because the copy I pre-ordered on the 18th of January has failed to materialise.

By happy chance, an email arrived today suggesting I can expect it just slightly into August. Not the best of service; I certainly won't be pre-ordering books from Amazon again!

I became unnerved by the notice in Amazon UK saying "out of stock" and then "allow several months for delivery", so I cancelled my pre-order with them which I had made back in January I think.

I instead ordered what seems to be a new copy through another seller on Amazon for a reasonable price which seems to have dispatched (fingers crossed). I'm not sure how all these copies suddenly appeared and yet Amazon has none, but on the UK version of Amazon it certainly seems available (through sellers other than Amazon itself) at affordable price, if that helps.

Article came up in my facebook news feed today: Artist Transforms Children's Nightmares Into Photos That Will Haunt Your Dreams

Re: a photographer, Arthur Tress, and his project visualizing kids' fears. Check out photo number 8. Evidence of the Small People, I think.

Re: The Spectral Link by Thomas Ligotti

When reading "The Small People," I kept thinking of that old Randy Newman song. I need to reread the story without that song running through my head. Damn it, how can I get that song out of my head?

Simple. Listen to enough Newman and your brains will just spill out your ears!

Only kidding. I like that kind of old bordello ragtime piano.

Re: The Spectral Link by Thomas Ligotti

This is a rather ominous portrayal of "The Small People"

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time

I remember this skit from years ago. The first minute and thirty seconds are really funny.

Re: The Spectral Link by Thomas Ligotti

No sense in creating a thread for this but it reminded me of a certain Shadow at the Bottom of the World.

A bottomless pit, quite large, has apparently opened in Northern Russia. So--

“The nethermost caverns,” wrote the mad Arab, . . . "Great holes secretly are digged where earth’s pores ought to suffice, . . ."

Excavations of "The Lurking Fear"?

"The Color out of Space"?
