Re: Chapbooks by Alcebiades Diniz Miguel

Dear friends,

The great and subtle reader Mark Andresen, from Pan Review, wrote a beautiful review of John Howard's new novel but included some sharp remarks about the series "Golden Age of Clairvoyance". For me, and for us at Raphus, the kind words by Mark mean a lot to us.

THE PAN REVIEW: Buried Shadows by John Howard, Egaeus Press

In fact, Mark, like Andrew Condous and Damian Murphy, is one of those who loved the new era of clairvoyance of Raphus Press

They certainly are interesting and attractive chapbooks.

Thank you so much for your comment, my friend. I would like to take this opportunity to present some more pictures of the books, which illustrate the printing excellence by Buchmanufaktur.

The photos including the beautiful card, sent with the direct purchase of the full series. Each card comes with an individual quotation from one of the books and the Raphus logo printed on the other side.

What was the total print run on these? And where does stock stand currently? I'm inclined to pick them up, but probably not until the middle of next month.

Dear friend,

There are 55 copies (plus a few private copies) of each of the three chapbooks. And I believe there will still be copies by the middle of next month.

Spiritual Meaning of the Massacres vol. 01 - The Mendicant of the Books

Rejoice! We at Raphus Press proudly announce our second series of chapbooks, focused on a damn book whose existence may someday be proven, *Spiritual Meaning of the Massacres*. It is the clash between the view of contemporary authors and classical works, little known, the search for a new meaning and flavor in the interaction between unpublished creations and translations of the old texts.

The first book of this new series: *The Mendicant of the Books*, an English translation of the brief nightmare, goyesquian-style titled “Le Quémandeur de Livres” by Octave Uzanne, originally published in his remarkable collection of bibliophilic essays *Caprices d’un Bibliophile*. This extraordinary piece of essay and fiction will be accompanied by three stories, contemporary creations: “The Dream” by Ramon Lasalle, “The Transgression” by Alcebiades Diniz Miguel and “Red Buried Memory” by Jonathan Wood. A volume with 6.1 x 9 in (155 x 230 mm), 40 pages with colorful illustrations, for US$ 30.00 (plus US$ 9.00 for the postage worldwide), in a very limited, luxuriant edition, printed in the wonderful Buchmanufaktur workshop, at Switzerland. The book shipment begins at the end of November, 2017 and the pre-orders start today.

Below, some pages and the cover art of this new chapbook.

Additional information on the books of the series, please visit our website. The first series, "Golden Age of Clairvoyance", can be discovered and acquired in this link.

The next titles, whose details will be announced in the coming weeks:

- Miracle of Theophilus, a translation of the “Le Miracle de Théophile” by Remy de Gourmont, originally published in the extraordinary magazine L’Ymagier, edited by Gourmont himself and Alfred Jarry. This evocative creation will be accompanied by three stories: “The Foundry” by Ramon Lasalle, “The Death of the Reader” by Alcebiades Diniz Miguel and “Haptic Words, Voids” by Thomas Philips.

- Grandville, a translation of the imaginative essay with the same title by Ruben Darío, originally published in the book El mundo de los sueños, prosas póstumas (1917). This translation will be accompanied by: “The Collection” by Ramon Lasalle, “In the Chapel of Bones” by Alcebiades Diniz Miguel and “Reading in the Absence of the Text: Notes on the Spiritual Meaning of the Massacres” by Thomas Stromsholt.

- The Kinsman of Fifty-three Monarchs, a translation of a rare story by Camilo Castelo Branco, accompanied by three tales: “The Oblivion” by Ramon Lasalle, “The Horror in the Table of Contents” by Alcebiades Diniz Miguel and “The Bastion Overwhelmed” by Damian Murphy.

Best,

Alcebiades Diniz Miguel

Raphus Pamphlet Series and The New Price for An Old One

Dear friends,

A new Raphus Press series of books has emerged as a Black thunderous bleak damnation! This is the Raphus Pamphlet Series that debut with the title The Sacred Abysmal Perspective (An essay on 'The Aesthete Hagiographer' by Derek John). A piece, perhaps controversial, with some meditations on the multiple incarnations of the void, especially those embodied in Derek John's brilliant novelette. In the words of Jonathan Wood, who read the material firsthand: “The pamphlet is a wonderful concept - keeping the great opuscule tradition alive and the content and graphics are very fine. There is an austere and apocalyptic flavor to it all, blurring the lines of morality and experience as the Void becomes apparent. The graphics are effectively disturbing in their abstraction.”

Like all future Raphus Pamphlet Series releases, The Sacred Abysmal Perspective will be offered to buyers who opted to make their purchases directly through our website. This first edition, limited to 15 copies, will be a kind of twin sister of The Mendicant of the Books. Currently, there are only 4 copies of The Sacred Abysmal Perspective available.

On the other hand, we will offer in the coming weeks a considerable discount on the original price of the first series of chapbooks, Golden Age of Clairvoyance. This is a great opportunity to get all of Raphus' production to date (at least as long as stocks last).

Next week, we will begin the pre-sales campaign for the second volume of the series Spiritual Meaning of the Massacres, with an unpublished narrative by Thomas Philips and an intriguing piece by Rémy de Gourmont. This second chapbook will be accompanied by the Raphus Pamphlet Series 02.

It will be a busy end of the year and full of possibilities.

Best for all of you,

Al

The Mendicant is about to arrive

Dear friends

The final prototype of the chapbook The Mendicant of the Books has just arrived from the Buchmanufaktur workshop and it's amazing, as the pictures attached below demonstrate.

This edition will only have 32 copies, and the first 15 will be accompanied by the pamphlet The Sacred Abysmal Perspective (An essay on The Aesthete Hagiographer by Derek John) as a gift (however, there only one copy of this pamphlet available for a future customer), 6.1 x 9 in (155 x 230 mm), 36 pages with colorful illustrations and transparencies, for US$ 30.00 (plus US$ 9.00 for the postage worldwide).

The contents of the book: The Mendicant of the Books, an English translation of the brief nightmare, goyesquian-style titled “Le Quémandeur de Livres” by Octave Uzanne, originally published in his remarkable collection of bibliophilic essays Caprices d’un Bibliophile. This extraordinary piece of essay and fiction will be accompanied by three stories, contemporary creations: “The Dream” by Ramon Lasalle, “The Transgression” by Alcebiades Diniz Miguel and “Red Buried Memory” by Jonathan Wood.

The Mendicant of the Books can be purchased at the Raphus Press website. The estimated shipping date: between the 22nd and the 28th of November.

My best,

Al

UPDATE: The Sacred Abysmal Perspective (An essay on The Aesthete Hagiographer by Derek John), a gift and a companion for The Mendicant is already out-of-print. Now, there are only a few copies of this chapbook at our website for direct purchase.
