Re: NecronomiCon Providence 2013

I'm glad that some TLO members will be making their way to Providence. I am champing at the bit for NecronomiCon, which promises to be the great High Feast of all things eldritch.

For me, this part of America is redolent with a Lovecraftian magic. Yes, there are the obvious touchstones in Providence (HPL's resting place, the sites from his stories, etc.), but beyond these; the hills of Massachusetts, the Colonial architecture, the wooded groves are all steeped in an atmosphere that is very dear to me.

I look forward to drinking it all in with many of you this summer.

Best,
Richard

Re: NecronomiCon Providence 2013

Two somewhat recent announcements about events tied to NecronomiCon:

Quote
ARS NECRONOMICA is a three-gallery survey of fine, commercial and outsider art, both contemporary and historical, that will redefine the life and creative legacy of iconoclastic author H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937). This three-part exhibition will showcase and build upon the existing patina through explorations in popular culture and the visual arts with an unrivaled collection of work from international and regional sources.

This series of events, organized by the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council, is being held in conjunction with the NecronomiCon Providence, a citywide celebration of the author and his writing. For more details about this exhibition and convention, please visit our website at NecronomiCon-Providence.com/Ars-Necronomica
A ton of amazing artists, including two of my favorite Nicks: Nick Gucker and the legendary Nick Blinko. Wow.

There will also be a music event (separate ticket required) one block from The Biltmore on Saturday night featuring Neurosis and Lustmord - quite the double-bill. Tickets are available for both general admission and reserved mezzanine. I bought mine yesterday and was able to get seats in the first mezzanine row. This should be spectacular, literally.

So this is happening right now. So far I have met Wilum(finally!), Nick Gucker, and Mike Davis. There was a Pulver sighting, and possibly a Griffin or two.

Things should really start picking up tonight; S. T. Joshi is giving the keynote speech at the first Baptist church in America in about 2.5 hours, that should be very interesting.

I plan to upload a photo album here eventually, but for play by play updates, The Lovecraft eZine website is your best bet. So far so good, even if we did apparently summon a thunderstorm when Wilum read a Derleth poem in the graveyard at St. John's.

Re: NecronomiCon Providence 2013

This is feeling like a personal blog or brag or whatever, but it is what it is. I can add Laird Barron, Mike Griffin and his charming wife Lena, Jeffrey Thomas, Joe Pulver and Lady Lovecraft, Pete Rawlik, and Miskatonic River Press main man Tom Lynch to that list. Talked with Laird for a bit, then had dinner with the others... Whoa. Hit the bars afterwards with same dinner folks, plus Justin Steele (Malachai Constant) and flippin' Darrell Schweitzer, who gave me the low down on slinging con t-shirts. An incredible night, and things don't even officially start until tomorrow. Talked Ligotti for a while with a fellow Gold Key-er named Patrick Something too, so I guess this post is sorta relevant. Sorta.

Re: NecronomiCon Providence 2013

Any chance someone there can help rally a ton of votes? Group voting at breakfast?? :-)

We've just about a ten vote lead in #2... voting ends in 10 hours!

Vote for Swan River Press | Arts Grants

Wish I were there!

Best,
Brian

Another amazing day. Spent most of it at the MRP table while Tom Lynch wad on panels. Met a lot of cool people, including Paul Tremblay and Michael Cisco. Moved a lot of books! Then saw a small ceremony where The King in Yellow (Bob Price) married Joe Pulver and Lady Lovecraft. Then attended a fancy dress ball with Scott Nicolay and Justin Steele, then the hotel bar with Justin and Jeffrey Thomas, who is possibly one of the nicest guys in the world.

Today is the biggest day of the convention, and things are revving up already. Laird and Joe read at 9:00, then all hell breaks loose, hopefully only figuratively.
