Well, I watched everything with him expect some early films from second half of the 90's and those awful Musketeers and Titans - Hollywood cash-ins. Hes work with Anders Thomas Jensen and Refn is classic. And I'm pretty sure I've seen him in Klovn, which is like best comedy series in this century, IMO. Its hard to believe he never worked with LVT.

I'm quite impressed!

Klovn is brilliant; a second movie will be out quite soon. He was in the episode about the soccer team.

I hated The Hunt, which epitomised just how standardised Danish cinema has been in recent years, and Shake it all About was rather clichéd in my opinion. Just as I think Anders Thomas Jensen writes a bit too many script making use of the same tricks over and over again. But it's possible that I'm biased viewing this from the inside - what is boring in Danish cinema for a Dane might not be noticed when viewed from the outside, the success of Danish tv series abroad in recent years being one example.

Mikkelsen was in a western film last year "The Salvation" with Eva Green in it as well. I quite enjoyed it, one of the best modern westerns I've seen.

Speaking of Eva Green; Penny Dreadful is my favorite show going right now. This show has really perfected what The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen tried to do.

Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

Thanks, Coa, my friend, for reminding me of the absurdity of ALL politics. A necessary evil, of course, but it amuses me that the people who run the show have all the integrity of used car salesmen. If you knew how little it costs to bribe one of these guys, you wouldn't be outraged--you'd feel embarrassment at how cheaply souls go these days.

Lovecraft's predictions weren't necessarily tied into his political conservative/socialist views. He just observed and extrapolated. New Age Madness? Check. Rising of Death Cults? Check. Rampant technology, corroding cultural wars? Check, check. He extrapolated human behavior in a world of dying religious belief. Read the papers; it worked pretty well.

I have Love-Hate relationship with Hunt, it felt like someone is trying really hard to be relevant but then again it was a hard topic, it reminded me of films by Susanne Bier - In a Better World for example, which is probably among my top 20 films of last decade or whatever. I think that Danish cinema with Romanian and South Korean is most interesting thing that happened to film lovers in last twenty years or so. Can't wait for Klovn 2...

Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

The problem with Danish cinema is that every other Danish movie will have its emotional climax when one part of a middle class couple will scream ort cry or both "HAVE YOU GONE COMPLETELY INSANE"/"WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU DOING" or something akin to that at his/her partner.

But I assume it's the better ones that get distribution abroad, and that you don't feel the insularity, the over-use of certain actors, when you're not Danish. But anyway, since I have an active dislike for film as an art form, I'm probably not the one to discuss this with.

Klovn 2 is going the a blast, I'm certain.

Now, if someone says something positive about 1864 which is being aired on British television currently, there's a very long and confused and angry rant a-coming.

It seems that season 2 of True Detective did indeed suck:

Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

And the James Ellroy/The Big Nowhere plagiarism accusations were picked up by The Telegraph after someone pointed the similarities out on Reddit:

Is True Detective season 2 a James Ellroy rip-off? - Telegraph

[Season 2] Has anyone read The Big Nowhere? : TrueDetective

[Season 2] Tracing the shadow of James Ellroy's The Big Nowhere on TD : TrueDetective

He was even accused of plagiarizing True Detective's first season:

: Did Nic Pizzolatto Self-Plagiarize Season 2?

Re: 'True Detective' Season 2 News: HBO Crime Drama Heading To The Big Screen?

Absolutely, unequivocally not surprising. Don't think Pizzolatto (honestly hoping I misspelled his name) can write ANYTHING without plagiarizing.

On an unrelated note, I got a peak at Season 3 of True Detective. It's about a detective named Ish Mael who joins a detective firm run by a guy named A. Habb. Habb is working the biggest case of his career, a case he's been working for years about a guy whose street name is "The White Whale," a notorious criminal who people think might just be a myth but Habb swears he's real. Apparently he had a run in with The Whale a long time ago and got badly injured, still has PTSD from that encounter. Long story short, all of season 3 is Habb just running the agency into the ground looking for the Whale. Huge climax at the end. Pizzalotto swears this is all original material, completely, 100% guaranteed NOTHING, no idea or concept was plagiarized from any source. Sounds worth checking out, definitely will watch the first episode or two. But for some reason this sounds vaguely familiar. Eh, it's probably just me. I mean Pizzalotto wouldn't lie to us again would he? What kind of d-bag would lie multiple times about the exact same thing? I mean you'd have to be a complete idiot to not just do the easy thing and cite your sources and influences up front. Ya, it's probably just me.
