The Glowing Man Pre-Order & New Tour Dates

Swans' new album, The Glowing Man, is available for pre-order and is due to be released on June 17th. They've also posted a new set of tour dates to accompany the album's release.

I can hardly wait! I've already pre-ordered the album and purchased tickets! This will be my third time experiencing a live Swans show, and the first two where, hands-down, the best live shows I've ever attended. My excitement for a new Swans release/tour is second only to that which I feel after the annoncment of a new Ligotti publication/reprint.

You're in for an immense treat, NIK. This will be the third tour I've attended, and I can't say enough about SWANS live; I'll just say it's as close to a "spiritual" experience as I'm ever likely to find.

Also, you won't regret having not missed this lineup. And as far as a loss of hearing goes: Trust me--it is worth it.

I've just finished listening to this album on Spotify, and it's a strong farewell to the current incarnation of SWANS.

Even though this album uses some excerpts from To Be Kind, it doesn't feel like a pastiche of that album. The textures are rich as cake and the tension built on each track is good and doesn't allow you to get bored occasionally as, say, Soundtracks for the Blind did to me. That being said the crushing bits that we all love are relatively few on this album, all the more savory. The lyrical content is heavily religious, almost hymns.

The best description I could give this album is a mule made from The Great Annihilatior and a typical Godspeed You! Black Emperor record.

It'll sound gigantic live.
