Re: David Lynch

- I highly recommend Twin Peaks: FWWM; it's my second favorite Lynch film after Eraserhead, and in many ways its very similar to End of Evangelion in the manner in which it both complements and subverts/deconstructs its original source material.

Re: David Lynch

I made the mistake of watching Twin Peaks: Fire Walk Wtih Me (after seeing a VHS copy of the European pilot) before the series, but I loved both anyway.

Also, if you watch Dune, there is a fan edit called Dune: The Alternative Edition Redux by a fan named SpiceDiver that is much better than the theatrical cut or the extended edition. I don't watch fan edits, since I consider the director's version the only version, but I made an exception with that one, and it was great (I am a big fan of the novels, as well).

Lost Highway is also my favorite, and I started watching Inland Empire at 3:00 AM, sligthly sleepy, and I loved it. It makes a certain sense in my head, but I cannot explain it to anybody else at all.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Mulholland Drive an "incoherent mess"? Astonishing ignorance.
"It can’t begin to stand next to True Detective" Well, that's true. Twin Peaks stands above it and craps all over it.

Re: David Lynch

The article was more than a bit contradictory. He claims the only distinguishing characteristic of Twin Peaks was that it was "different." OK; but he then goes on to criticize it for not being conventional in narrative development, characters, etc.
That's like buying a bright red sports car and then complaining because it's not a big black luxury barge.

Comparing TP to True Detective is like comparing Borges to Stephen King. It can be done but it's pointless.
Personally, I liked both. I still have problems with the Twin Peaks ending which didn't work for me at all. But it was rushed out of necessity and I guess we're lucky to have an ending. I think it would have been cool and true to the show's spirit to just leave it unfinished...

Re: David Lynch

This following moment made Lost Highway for me. Years ago I had the pleasure of watching friend jonpi rebuild a 6.9 Benz engine. It looked a lot like something from Alien. Lots of plumbing, dry sump. The 600's were nice cars.
The 80's--the last decade when a Benz was a Benz. And a T-bird was...'nuff said.
Despite their amount of screen time, Loggia and Blake stole this film. Lynch picked the right guys all right.

Re: David Lynch

David Lynch is a magician. His work seduces me, repulses me, invigorates me, relaxes me. To say I look forward to a third season of Twin Peaks is a severe understatement. However, expectations have always been an enemy of mine, so I will avoid any and all details about the new series until it is officially airing on Showtime.

@ The Alchemist

Watch Blue Velvet ... watch Blue Velvet.

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."
