Re: D.P. Watt
I've read several stories from D.P. Watt's Almost Insentient, Almost Divine collection. The weird and supernatural elements in them were very, very understated and subtle, for better or worse, often just creeping there in the background. Also look for his story "Malice and Majesty" in the tribute to Current 93: Mighty in Sorrow. The prose and imagery in that story is absolutely beautiful.

Watt has been very fortunate with the cover art.

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

Re: D.P. Watt
"With Gravity, Grace" is sublime. Watt's stories are usually very melancholy. I recall getting a little teary-eyed while reading through most of the stories in Almost Insentient, Almost Divine.

Petals and Violins: Fifteen Unsettling Tales
D.P. Watt Introduction by Peter Holman, Afterword by Helen Marshall D.P. Watt’s unsettling tales draw back the curtain on other realities, hidden just beyond our own; shifting pasts and futures are conjured through the mystery of old postcards and the beckoning lights of distant windows; the horrors of the twentieth century erupt through the absurd experimentation of the theatrical avant-garde; a young woman’s tragedy is witnessed through the eyes of a discarded doll; a taxidermist’s craft reaches a monstrous apotheosis; grief renders families distant and lost, ushering in unwelcome ghosts and visions; folk magic preserves the fleeting events of dreams and memories, whilst promising glimpses of heaven or hell.
