Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories
Joking apart I shall be interested to see that Weighell collection - I only know of him dimmly from several articles on certain occult motifves in the stories of M.R. James written for G&S and a fantasticaly hard to find collection from Ghost Story Press. I'm glad Ex Occidente is getting back onto track with its publication plans after all the setbacks it has suffered. Do you know if your collection is going to be in the "new" format like The Nightfarers and All Gods Angels?

It's my understanding that all books from EOP will be presented in this new format.

Reall nice volumes to handle. Both are genuinely great books. (I, too, have had the Samuels book on order and really look forward to it).

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories
Call me, Deshmael. Seriously, we are still Mark and Des when talking to each other, aren't we? With deserved respect to the book, though, it is a Samuels book just like 'David Copperfield' is a Dickens book. Me and Charles - that's another story.

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories
OT for a moment but linked to the Dickens reference: I recommend Gaynor Arnold's novel Girl in a Blue Dress (2008) as an alternative 'life of Dickens' from the viewpoint of his badly-treated wife. By no means a hatchet job on Dickens but an exploration of his darker side that also recognises his idealism and commitment to social reform. Doesn't mention his lifelong inability to punctuate sentences in any rational way, however. A must-read for the Dickens enthusiast and the Dickens sceptic alike. Make this your Yuletide gift to yourself!

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories
'Oh, go-roo!' (it is really impossible to express how he twisted this ejaculation out of himself, as he peeped round the door-post at me, showing nothing but his crafty old head; ) 'will you go for fourpence?' The first smiley-emoticon in history? Actually, in the text there is no space between the ; and ) but if I put them together correctly, this forum's formatting automatically turns it into a real smiley! [BTW, Joel, are you being 'intentional' when quoting Dickens' life alongside his literary work?]

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories
No Des, my activity of typing words onto the screen, like that of a fiction writer, is random and expresses only the consciousness of some coeopteroid hive-mind on a distant nebula. People buy cheese because they want to eat cheese, tie their shoelaces because they don't want to fall over, turn on the CD player because they intend to hear music... but write words subject to unknowable and not even human dictates.
Nemonymous dating is great though, you should try it.
