Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

Now out of my Wrzesmian clown-suit, may I say how much I've enjoyed this thread.
And in its context of 'feeling', if not geography, can I ask: has anyone read WG Sebald?

I'm inclined to bark up the same tree. Thank you, Slawek!

Tibet: Carnivals?
Ligotti: Ceremonies for initiating children into the cult of the sinister.
Tibet: Gas stations?
Ligotti: Nothing to say about gas stations as such, although I've always responded to the smell of gasoline as if it were a kind of perfume.

Have never tried this author... I'm afraid.

The creation of this thread and MySpace account coincides with Grabinski's 120th Birthday, which is today!

Let this spectral (only in Internet Explorer) page be my present to one of my favorite writers:

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

I just started a thread, in which one of the terms discussed is Grabinski's "psycho-fantasy":

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

I have to thank you, yellowish haze, for pointing me in the direction of Stefan Grabinski. I've just started reading The Motion Demon, and I'm loving it. Grabinski's use of trains as a metaphor for the limits of terrestrial life and ambition is intriguing, and his obsessive protagonists are surprisingly well-developed, considering how short the stories themselves are. Grabinski is a real find, and represents just one of the many rewards of being a member of TLO!

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

No problem Dr. Zirk. It's always a pleasure to hear that the fanbase of such neglected authors as Grabinski is strengthened!

I hope Grabinski's Myspace account will help in this.
I've now uploaded two fragments from a quirky 1967 adaptation of Grabinski's "The Siding" (from The Motion Demon collection):

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=20137 96033

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=20137 89333

Passanger: No, no. Professor, we have to do something! We have to do something! The train has to be stopped!
Professor: (laughing madly) The siding... the madness!

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

I've just noticed that I have a copy of 'Fumes' (tr. by M Lipinski) in 'Fantasy Macabre 14' (1992) usa. I was wondering if this was the first publication of this translation.

Great! I'm not sure if this is the first publication.

Hey, where are the photos?

Pictures referenced from the previous incarnation of Rignolo's Studio have not yet been converted. They will make the journey as time allows me to focus on cleanup tasks. My work is not yet done, but it shall come to pass.
