Wonderful news. I wasn't aware of this new collection at all until you posted the link. Looks like it isn't Ash-Tree Press doing it, but who cares? More Grabinski is unequivocally a good thing!

I don't think so, Mark. In fact, I have reasons to believe that this thread is the first and only place on the internet where it can be seen. But then, I might be wrong.

However, if there is anything on this list you'd like to identify, just let me know.
Hi yellowish haze, if your offer's still open could you tell us what the book has to say about the unpublished novella Fluteboy mentioned? (I was under the impression that there were, counting the pseudonymous In the Shadow of Belief, six short story collections and four novels, plus a few unpublished dramas.)

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

Further Lipinski translations of Grabinski would be wonderful.

I do wish this information wasn't only available on Facebook though, since I'll never join, and I associate that "social network" with gossipy moronic rubbish.

Thanks to Alberto for drawing attention to the volume, however.

Although I do have an account, I totally agree with you.

Taking in account that the last Grabinski's collection of stories, "The Motion Demon", was published in 2005, and this new one apparently is almost translated, and would probably be published in 2010, does it mean that the next collection of stories is going to be published in 2015? I don't understand why no other publishing house is interested in his works.

Mark, the first time I heard of Grabinski was through you. A thousand times, thank you.

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

I've just discovered that the story "Święto sadów" was published under a different title in the weekly "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" (No 44 - 46 / 1931). The new title was "Sad umarłych" [Orchard of the Dead]. Since all issues of that respectable magazine can be now read online, here is the link:

http://bcul.lib.uni.lodz.pl/dlibra/p...on?id=58&tab=3

As far as I know, four of Grabinski's short stories were published in "Tygodnik Ilustrowany". All can be found at the above address. The stories in question include:

1) "Król Nenufar" [The King Nenuphar] - No 2/1920

2) "Opowieść o grabarzu" [The story of a gravedigger] - No 25 - 26 / 1922

3) "Spojrzenie" [ A Look] - No 28 - 30 / 1921

plus, of course, the story referred to above...

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

Oh, I'd love beyond anything else that more Grabinski be made available.

I so, so, wish I were able to read his works in the original language.

Glad, btw, to have pointed you in his direction, Alberto. It's an honour to have done so!

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

Hi guys!

wrześmian, great thanks for your finds and researches. Very interesting and necessary information.
One moment -
"Sad umarłych" published in "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" 44-46, 1921 - not 1931.

But I'm confused now again
Grabinski Facebook post from September 12th informs that the story "Sad umarłych" has been published in "Gazeta Poranna", November 3-8, 1912. As "Sad umarłych" (Baśń).
And later in "Tygodnik Ilustrowany", 1921, as "Sad umarłych (Baśń zaduszna)".
Stop. Then whence Artur Hutnikiewicz has taken other title for this story in the first publication - "Święto sadów"?

Another news (but you guys already know it, I'm sure) -
Recent 2nd volume of anthology "Maska śmierci".
There is 14 stories of Stefan Grabinski, including some rare stuff from papers.
And... 4 poems! "Węzły czasu", "Czas i klepsydra", "Etyka linii" and "Ironia" (fragments).
First published maybe? Early stuff, or from prose works?
Wow, I didn't know that he wrote verses also...

Yeah, I found now one interesting forum message about these "poems"...
Man said that actually not verses but prose poetry!
I think previously unknown stuff anyway...

Re: In search of Stefan Grabinski

I just picked up In Sarah's House via The Book Depository and it's a fine little book. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Also, I thought that the Translator's Preface: A Necrology was excellent.
