Re: Movie Recommendations

I was at the video store the other day and I noticed that You're Next is finally on the shelves. I liked this movie so much that I saw it twice at the theater. Despite the violence, I thought it was a lot of fun. I don't usually like these types of movies, but this was so well done that I was surprised. It reminded me of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a few ways: It was low budget, it had excellent cinematography, the bloodshed was mostly implied or made humorous, and some of the scenes and dialogue are very memorable. I think it is a minor classic. I am not going to post the trailer because it has spoilers.

Re: Movie Recommendations

You're Next is one of those films that really seems to split opinions. Half the people I know think it's the greatest thing ever and half of them think it's the worst thing ever. Personally, I just thought it was average.

I can't think of a quote in contemporary cinema more quietly chilling than It must have been the magpies.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Why Don't You Play in Hell? - New film by Sion Sono. Fun, violent, way to long - everything you can expect from him is here.

But if you want something darker, try Cold Fish also by Sono, its really good - probably hes best film so far.

BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO Trailer | Festival 2012 - YouTube

A seamless blend of "Mulholland Drive" and "The Tenant" in every sense

Re: Movie Recommendations

To me Berberian Sound Studio is the best film since Anti-Christ. A heady mix of Lynch and Argento.. a fever dream and a docudrama... must see...

Re: Movie Recommendations

Berberian Sound Studio - I liked soundtrack more than the film

Similar film that explores Giallo genre - Amer, and its even "stranger" than BSS...

Re: Movie Recommendations

I saw it when I was a kid, then again recently. Definitely some great parts. The sequel was more comedy, featuring a zombie cowboy or two and a large barking caterpillar with a dog's face.

Funny that George Wendt was in the first one and John Ratzenberger was in the second - the latter playing an electrician/adventurer. Here's a brief clip: House2~Bill Towner ~Electrician/Adventurer - YouTube

Unfortunately it doesn't show Ratzenberger's business card.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Probably someone mentioned this one before : Men Behind the Sun, Hong-Kong film about legendary Unit 731 ; film is very explicit in showing crimes (or "scientific explorations") of infamous group 731.
Banned - censored - director received death threats - yes, every possible qualification that you can expect for a good film is here.
