Some borderline Ligottian imagery in that trailer.

Re: Video Games

Just beat Resident Evil 7. Richly atmospheric for the most part, and the first true Resident Evil game in over a decade. It lapses into frivolous action occasionally, and loses its way towards the end, but it is recommended for fans of the series who have become jaded with the dumb action instalments.

I thought it was good as well, especially the first half. The second half, while probably necessary, was significantly weaker. I really liked the Marguerite boss encounter.

Alien Isolation is still the best fps horror game in my opinion. Amnesia and Soma are up there as well.

Re: Video Games

I only just got a PS4 so am looking for good horror games. I already own and have completed Bloodborne and RE7. Might check out Alien as I'm an obsessive fan of the film.

Re: Video Games

I am currently playing Torment: Tides of Numenera, the spiritual successor of the masterful Planescape: Torment. There is more dialogue and description than actual gameplay, much like the original, and you can avoid all combat with the correct choices and stats. The writing is pretty good and detailed. So far I would recommend the game if you enjoy rich and mind bending lore, but it's better to play the acclaimed original first. The original ranks with some of the best weird fiction, but it is too early for me to decide whether its successor lives up to its visionary quality. On IPad, so I am being brief. Note, the console versions have frame rate and technical issues compared to the PC, but it's better than missing out on the experience.

Re: Video Games

Recently I replayed System Shock 2. I had forgotten just how much I love that game. In my opinion, one of the biggest pleasures of the game is its audio dimension, which is fantastic. I'm not just talking about the voice acting, which is great in and of itself (one thing I like about a lot of games of that era is how many of the voices were done by people who were actually working on the game itself, and I generally find ...amateur voice acting more interesting than professional: Daniel Thron in particular is great as Prefontaine). I'm not even talking about just the enemy sound effects either, which are also great. Just the sound design of the game as a whole: there are a lot of really sinister and downbeat ambient background loops that wouldn't sound out of place as samples on a 90's industrial rock album on there. I have heard the game's soundtrack, but I've always played SS2 with the music off, because I find it takes away from the creepy atmosphere. In any event, Eric Brosius was a genius and I really hope they get him for "System Shock 3."

Then it will probably be one your favorites games.

Re: Video Games

New Zelda game looks amazing but I haven't played games for years and I don't know if I could muster the patience again. Especially can't be bothered with puzzles, which I found too difficult in Twilight Princess but there's always FAQs. Maybe someday.

Re: Video Games

@Frater_Tsalal

You played their Thief games? Ones developed by LGS use the very same engine as System Shock 2. Brosius' sound design is just as good, plus their subtle dark ambient soundtrack actually complements their atmosphere.
Also, original Thief game is perhaps the only game that managed to evoke th sort of supernatural weirdness one encounters in writers like Machen or Blackwood. (actually, third game even contained the direct reference to "The White People"... tho, it wasn't nearly as good a game as its predecessors were).

Oh, and dem cutscenes:
