Scott Nicolay's Outer Dark podcast, interviews with weird fiction authors

The Outer Dark Archives - Project iRadio

It's only been going a few months but already quite a lot of interviews.

I highly recommend this one:

I should add for transparency's sake that Craig is a friend of mine.

Re: Scott Nicolay's Outer Dark podcast, interviews with weird fiction authors

I've been enjoying these quite a bit. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with a new episode every week, but they're always worth a listen.

That Craig Gidney episode was actually recorded in my guest room (Scott's half of the phone call, I mean), while Scott was visiting for the Lovecraft film fest earlier this month.

Re: Scott Nicolay's Outer Dark podcast, interviews with weird fiction authors

That's the first one I listened to. He was also on Geek's Guide To The Galaxy podcast recently with two other people involved in Queers Destroy Horror, then I looked his blog up and realised I'd read the blog before but couldn't remember when or why. Then discovered this podcast through his blog.

Re: Scott Nicolay's Outer Dark podcast, interviews with weird fiction authors

I forgot to mention one other thing about this podcast -- my music is used for the intro/outro theme. That's something else I enjoy hearing every episode... so I suppose I'm biased about The Outer Dark.

Re: Scott Nicolay's Outer Dark podcast, interviews with weird fiction authors

Was listening to the Chesya Burke interview and Nicolay mentioned his friends seeing real werewolves and I was going "...wait, what?!"

But all that stuff about the Harlem Renaissance in the Burke and Gidney interviews is fascinating. I'd never even heard of it before.

Re: Scott Nicolay's Outer Dark podcast, interviews with weird fiction authors

I don't know why Project iRadio stopped hosting them but it was I don't know how many months now (a whole year?). Moved to This Is Horror and they're slowly uploading old episodes. New episodes aren't nearly as frequent as they were.

Anyone else here been listening?

Two most recent episodes were mostly convention panels, one episode had two panels about black women writing horror and speculative fiction. Another episode about the lesser known gems and history of Weird Tales.

TOD 004 Weird Tales: Beyond Lovecraft, A Panel at the 2016 HP Lovecraft Film Festival This Is Horror

There was talk about current weird magazines but no mention of Weirdbook and Skelos. Are these too retro or too steeped in adventure fantasy?
