Exclamation Fair Warning

TLO was once a thriving community of supportive authors, artists, readers and friends. Something horrible has happened along the way and there is a dark shadow of oppression that seems to be cast over the forums. No more. This is fair warning that disrespectful and offensive behavior will not be tolerated. Warnings may be issued, but I reserve the right to ban without warning those that have proven themselves to be incessant offenders already. Do not attempt to counter my actions with debate or protest, as I will consider this a subsequent offense. My judgement will be final and irrevocable in all instances.

Re: Fair Warning

i have been a "lurker" here for years. i recently officially joined. for me, this site has been a tremendous (in all honesty, the greatest) source for discovery. i have found new writers, artists, films; i.e. distractions that keep me going. we all obviously love tom's work - it speaks to us on some level - and sharing works of art that might be of interest seems to be the heart of this website. YES! keep it coming! i have opinions about the nature of things. opinions vary. our views are arbitrary. creativity is a demon that manifests itself in myriad ways. if i started moralizing, i would have to stop reading, listening to music, enjoying art. these are the only distractions i have. i do second dr. bantham's sentiment; this has always seemed a community. it is a shame to see it reduced to the typical cyber-nonsense that we are all saturated with. i can only hope that dr. bantham does not grow so weary of it that he dismantles this website, and that its members do not steer clear because of its recent unpleasant turn. no one will ever convert anyone else; our views are our own. who cares? we all find our own ways of moving through this life, and i, for one, have found many interesting distractions here. i am off to finish a book that i read about here. be well, everyone.

Thank you so much for stepping out of the shadows to reaffirm my dedication to membership. Welcome aboard. Though the bow dips with into coming waves, the ballast remains intact.

Re: Fair Warning

Like susto, I have also been a TLO lurker for some time and now a recent member.
I don't think I can put it any better than susto has to say how much I appreciate the TLO site and the work that goes into it.

The quality and administration of the website is excellent and is a credit to those who work so hard to maintain it; and I have not found another forum that even comes close in terms of the rich knowledge the members here possess.

Many of my favourite works I have discovered through recommendations here, including Thomas Ligotti's masterpieces of course.
I hope that I too can contribute to this wondrous cauldron of the weird and that the TLO site rides out this storm to find the calm, tranquil seas it so deserves.

Re: Fair Warning

Hi all,

Given that we see so many 'welcomes' to new members it is apparent that this site it is a thriving community which is a sign of its health and worth.

I have learnt a huge amount as a result of being part of it though a (very) irregular poster myself.

We are all cosmic dust motes and if some have to be brushed off then so be it. The good Doctor has done a wonderful job in maintaining this resource and fully deserves the support of all who are involved with it.

REGARDS!

J

Re: Fair Warning

I'd like to add my appreciation of the work that's gone into this website. I don't take part in many discussions—it seems a little hard to break into some of the more involved discourses. Nevertheless, it's an endless and fascinating source of interest.

Re: Fair Warning

Just to note that things here look good now, and I hope everyone feels that there is freedom of expression. There is no censorship of pessimism or dark sensibility, there is only censorship of dogmatism and aggressive back-biting. I'm happy to see all shades of opinion here, as long as some shades are not being subjected to insulting condemnation. Let's anticipate another year of searching, restless freedom on TLO, with thanks to the entities who make it possible.

Re: Fair Warning

You can add my appreciation to that list. There are few things so connecting for me in the way that Ligotti's masterpieces of nightmare do, and stumbling upon a community of like minded individuals was quite a rewarding experience. Thank you!

Re: Fair Warning

This is the right decision. Unmoderated discussion sinks to the level of the jungle. Civilization requires boundaries.
