Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations
A classic black metal act that "has it":
Gontyna Kry : This is a polish black metal band with some EPIC and cold harsh stuff in it. Really one of the best black metal albums of all time, and it's a demo! This other track is a bit different, off some of their later stuff, but still really really good if you give it a chance and spin it enough times:

I didn't know if I should have posted this under Your Favorite Song at the Moment, but this seems the more appropriate thread.
These guys make me think "Blackened Cheap Trick". I don't even like Cheap Trick, but this song is so damned catchy

Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations
I recently bought a large cd collection off a former reviewer, with insane amounts of good stuff, a lot of it long out of print. Among the cd's I bought was Dødheimsgard's two first albums, which I somehow never got around to buying back then, probably because it was billed as an all star-band, and I quite resented that back then. Nevertheless, their debut album, Kronet til Konge, is a masterpiece. Not very new, and some of you probably know this already. But, nevertheless, it's news to me. They later developed into a highly experimental outfit, incorporationg techno into their black metal - surprisingly, it didn't suck, which is quite a feat in itself (God, al those horrible Necromantia side projects trying to combine black metal and techno with retarded übermensch philosophy. I'm glad I can't remember what they were called). Their transitional ep before becoming fully fledged avantgarde black metal, Satanic Art, was another CD I got. Which was rather nice, since I had sold my old copy some 7 years ago in a fit (one of many) of stupidity. |

Re: Off the radar metal album recommendations
Danish black/horror metal band Denial of God was severely mocked in the international press (especially Nordic Vision Magazine, if memory serves me right) when their debut ep, The Ghouls of DOG was released in 1996. The drumming, it must be agreed, pretty bad on it. Over the years, they have progressed very far, and I count them as one the best metal bands in Denmark currently. Judging from this (official and legal) leak from their forthcoming album, the next album will be a MONSTER!
