Re: Video Games

So Bayonetta was just ported and released to Steam, after a huge wait of 7 years. I can't wait to play it again.

If you're not familiar with the game, its a "character action" in the same vein of Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, etc. However Bayonetta is unique in that it has some of the most flashy as well as complex and innovative combat of any action game.

Also, you play as a gun-toting witch who fights angels and other celestial beings, using your hair to summon demons. The characters and dialog are cheesy but the art direction for the enemies and levels is incredible, and like I said, combat in video games doesn't get much more better than Bayonetta.

In my top 5 games of all time.

It physically pains me to say its been 7 years since I've first played it. Seems like it was just yesterday.

Re: Video Games

Yeah, things have been p great for PC gaming in the last few years, at least for those who like Japanese stuff. Japanese companies have been porting anything and everything from their back catalogs to PC lately.

Would be cool to see the original Nier on PC, given that sequel has been doing pretty well on Steam. Some sort of HD multiplatform rerelease would be great, given that game was originally borderline panned by the idiotic "pro" reviewers and has sold p poorly (even though it was almost universally loved by players who actually decided to try it for themselves).

Nier is one of my favorite games.

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

Re: Video Games

I finally finished The Last Express, the most unique detective game I've ever played. It has a cartoon look but everything is animated. There's no notebook, no interrogating suspects, no searching for deep hidden clues like usual. You play an American who has a rendezvous with his friend on the train, but upon arrival you find him dead. There's no save but there's an egg clock where you can rewind time, thus events are all time-based. The game is also a piece of historical fiction, taking place in 1914-the train and characters reflect the turmoils before WWI.

I don't think my comment on the game will do it justice so here is a more thorough review of it Hardcore Gaming 101: The Last Express

"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."

Re: Video Games

Some advice for supporters of that ridiculous petition
New far Cry game sets players against far right christian cult, which resulted in unprecedented outcry from right leaning gamers.

Re: Video Games

The original Nier is, indeed, a beautiful, dark game about tragic misunderstandings, the loss of the simple joys in life, and the overall futility of one's endeavors. The player has to at least complete route B to attain the full experience. I also found most of the side quests worthwhile.

Granted, routes C and D were handled rather poorly in my opinion.

The writing during the Forest of Myth in the first and second halves were also very good, and I felt Automata's narrative scenes did not reach that level.
