The Dark Side

I picked up a wonderful book last week that may be of interest to some of you.Entitled 'The Dark Side' by Alan Pratt,it's a 260 page anthology of the finest nihilisitic and pessimistic quotations from western thought and philosophy, from Homer to Cioran.Essential reading for any self-respecting lurker in darkness. It would make a perfect companion piece to TCATHR.

I'm sure it's the kind of book Ligotti himself would enjoy, although given the depth of his reading in negative philosophy I daresay he's aware of it already.

What a wonderful book THE DARK SIDE is. I stumbled across it in a Barnes & Noble about five years before I discovered Ligotti, and it instantly became a treasured and most influential companion. My copy is well-marked, and I return to it semi-frequently to browse. The book has some of the same effect on me that I mentioned in my recent post about TCATHR: It enervates me, generates despair, and tends to induce inertia due to the sheer weight of the mood of ultimate futility it elicits. And yet I can't get enough of it.

So this is to say that I certainly see the validity of the comparison you draw between THE DARK SIDE and CATHR, Malone. Nice call.

Well, I just bought it online. Thanks a lot, guys. I guess I didn't need to save money this year anyway.
