Gary Lutz

I feel certain that some Ligotti readers would appreciate Gary Lutz. To me, Lutz's interviews and stories are as bleakly funny as Ligotti's. Here is an interview that was just published: Little Seizures Of Grief: Talking With Gary Lutz - The Rumpus.net. Several other Lutz interviews, as well as some fiction, are available online (see links from his Wikipedia page). You can get a sense of his unique use of language from the interviews, but for the full experience you have to go to the fiction. He has also written two books about grammar, and his inventive approach to language is steeped in linguistic knowledge.

Re: Gary Lutz

This quote “I said that at my age, you start to realize you might have loved only once, if that.” reels me in so I'll check out Assisted Living. Thanks for the head up.

"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."
