Re: weird fiction, visual
Honestly, I think the majority of good mainstream artists in comics are wasting their talents. They just seem to get stuck doing bits and bobs for the biggest publishers.
Most of my favourite comic artists never got to do a really great project. Perhaps this is more true for Sienkiewicz. I don't really know if he does anything outside comics.

Re: weird fiction, visual
Breccia once did a three or four page wordless adaptation of a Lafcadio Hearn tale that you could build entire lectures on comics narrative technique around. He is that good.

I suppose it's too obvious to point out that Sienkiewicz did the art for The Clown Puppet comic adaption?

Re: weird fiction, visual
I read somewhere that Al Columbia hated Big Numbers and found it boring. Also, his art style in Doghead is miles away from what was required for this project, at least to me. Also, Campbell said that he offered Moore to work on Big Numbers but he rejected the idea. He was kind of disappointed because he got to work on what he called a "penny dreadful that costs thirty five bucks", which would be From Hell, and that Big Numbers was the superior idea. Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

I was going to ask "is it any good," but then realized that our definitions of what constitutes a good adaptation probably differ in significant ways...

-New York Review of Books Classics, which just re-released Beyer's Agony and has the first US edition of Pushwagner's Soft City lined up for fall, is also putting out a collection this year by Abner Dean, a mid-century artist whose allegorical, absurdist work resembles New Yorker cartoons as interpreted by the likes of Kafka or Beckett. The above piece resonates very strongly with me.
