Re: books you are ashamed you have not read

In Search of Lost Time/Marcel Proust and Ulysses/James Joyce...they are way down my reading list.

The Unnamable and the 2nd half of Malone Dies by Samuel Beckett. I read and immediately reread Molloy. Started Malone Dies, and then put it down for some reason. This was like ten years ago.

Re: books you are ashamed you have not read

I have not read anything by Gene Wolfe or Jack Vance; I keep thinking I should do something about this.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: books you are ashamed you have not read

This review convinced me I should read all 12 books of Wolfe's Solar series (comprising New Sun, Long Sun, Short Sun series).

Re: books you are ashamed you have not read

... Still need to read more by Lászlo Krasznahorkai, have been waiting for the right moment (or week) to dive into "Satantango" or "War & War." Both "The Melancholy of Resistance" and "Seiobo There Below" were well worth the (for me) effort required.

Re: books you are ashamed you have not read

An Edge In My Voice by Harlan Ellison

I bought this when it was published and I was pretty pumped.
I was almost obsessed with Ellison during the 70s. Bought all his books I could find. Also mags such as the Rockets Blast issue to him, F&SF issue, the lengthy Comics Journal interview.
His stories resonated with me.
Even after I left L A, whenever I visited, I checked to see if Harlan was going to be at the Dangerous Visions Bookshop on Ventura, and would go to see him, listen to him, buy from him.
Ellison's output tapered in the 80s. A preordered Whispers Press book never came out (he pled writers block).
Still, I really wanted to read An Edge In My Voice.
Thing is - I had lost all interest in reading SciFi, even "speculative fiction" as Ellison coined his work.
And Ellison's rage, bitterness, despair, so relevant to the teenage me, made me sigh more than anything.
An Edge In My Voice sat on my shelves for 30 years. Waiting to be read.
Yesterday, I loaded it into the cardboard box of books for the used book store. Along with many others, including both Glass Teat books.
I wish I had read it. I wish it had come out in the 70s.
Now I'm sounding like Tom Reamy.

Countless Marxist/feminist/political/historical texts. In terms of fiction? I'm not ashamed of anything. I haven't read The Great Gatsby. Whoops.
